Herpes or Folliculitis, confused!

I have had a sexual encounter in the past and since then I have gotten these red bumps on both of my inner thighs, they're like insect bites with a hair coming out of them. Anyway these bumps come and go often, I get them often like every two weeks or so, I'll only get like one or two which appear in different regions on the inner thigh. Generally they disappear leaving nothing behind (even the hair goes) or a dark patch of skin is left. It has gotten to a point where I have very little hair on my inner thighs (I am male), some hairs are growing back but slowly.

The bumps have never blistered or scabbed over.

SH clinic says folliculitis, but I get these symptoms very often and am not convinced with the clinic's opinion.

Does anyone else get anything similar?

Do you have any other symptoms ? Sounds like folliculitis. You can get an ELISA IGG HSV 1 and 2 blood test done to find out for sure. Clinics often are quick to rule out herpes if no blisters or sores are present. Have you ever had a Cold Sore ?

I live in the UK and SH clinics are very reluctant for doing herpes tests, when I asked they said they only do them if there are obvious sores visible.

I haven't had any cold sores on my lips, I recently (few weeks ago) got an unusual sensation on my upper lip with a little redness, but I don't know if that was down to shaving or something else.

Doesn't sound like herpes, but if you're not convinced, just ask to have it swabbed.

Apparantly everyone experiences different symptoms and the internet makes everything even more confusing!

If hairs are involved, I would be inclined to agree that it's folliculitis, not herpes.
