Herpes outbreak after vaginal sex

I really need some advice, this problem has gone on for over a year now. The problem isn't with myself ( but could be linked to me) but my boyfriend. After having vaginal sex servere herpes symptoms occur as if it was the first episode eg flu like symptoms, severe lethargy, sometimes the blisters appear but not always. He was diagnosed a few months ago and unfortunately we are unable to have a normal sex life because he goes through so much and feels so bad. Over the last year this happened at least 5 times.

I haven't been diagnosed within herpes but do sometimes have vaginal itching but other than that nothing

He is convinced it's the contact with me that is causing the outbreak. Is this possible does anyone know? Just don't know where to go from here any advice would be a big help.

Yes sex can cause outbreak but so does stress, chocolate & umber of other things. He should talk to his doctor so he can have fewer to no outbreaks

Sex causes friction, which can trigger an outbreak. So, it's not you, but the act of sex itself. Try using lube to minimise friction.

If and when you move on from the relationship, by the way, you should test yourself for herpes (IgG antibody test). Symptoms aren't necessary to be a carrier.

I've repeatedly asked to be tested and they say they can't unless there are sores/spots visible.

      I'll ask again

Yes this is what I thought too about the act of sex, but it doesn't explain why anal sex has no effect.

Could it be the fact that he's worried about it happening with vaginal sex?

      It's really confusing

Your doctor/clinic is misinformed. There is an IgG antibody blood test for herpes, especially intended for those with no lesions to swab. (Remember: IgG, *not* IgM!)

Perhaps you use (more) lube for anal sex than vaginal sex? Regular stress does not trigger herpes, only severe and prolonged stress, so I doubt it's that.

Ok I'll definitely look into getting this test done!

      Thanks for your advice

You should both see a gynecologist to get properly checked.

Does anyone know if an allergy to latex could cause an outbreak?
