Herpes pain

Im having a first outbreak. I wasnt able to get to the doc to get tested until 7 days after I noticed symptoms ( still witing on results but I have a textbook case of herpes) . She gave me valtrex and this is my second day taking it. She also gave me ibprophen and lidocane. The lidocane helps temporarly but I'm in so much pain. I cant sit, I havent been able to go to work. I've been in pain for a week and I feel like I'm never going to get better. I do a salt soak twice a day but it doesn't work, I also tried peroxide for 2 days. My wounds are still open almost a week later and it hurts so much. I'm losing hope. Any recommendations?

ibprophen and lidocane are used to ease pain and itchiness. If they doesn't help, you should ask your again. Have you ever tried Epsom salt to ease pain? I used to tried it to ease pain and boost the healing process. At the same time, I applied topical prosurx cream and ate lysine rich foods. If the pain is severe, you should wear loose cotton clothes and avoid wearing underwear to reduce irritation.

Sounds like you are having a tough time Ciara.

You are doing the right things. Lidocaine gel is effective at numbing the area but will need to re-apply it every four hours or so.

I suspect the ibuprofen wont be helping much.

The Valtrex should prevent the outbreak extending further.

The outbreak will come to and end eventually but you might have a few more bad days yet, unfortunately.

The first outbreak is always the worst one. Later outbreaks will be less severe.

You say you are still waiting for results. Did you get the area swabbed? Due to the delay in getting this done you get a negative result back from the swab even though it really is a Herpes outbreak. This is because the virus is usually only shed dring the first 2-3 days. So just be aware of that.

    Best of luck to you

    It will get better.

thanks. I wasnt able to get swabbed until 7 days later but when i got swabbed i had new bumps forming that just broke open yesterday. I told my doc that and she said maybe itll come out positive because that. Is there a blood test I can do that will come out positive? I would like to know what type i have.

It's certainly useful to know what type you have so I hope you are correct and the swab finds the virus for you.

I'm not fully informed about the blood test. However I believe they are antibody based so it takes a while before they can find anything. My impression from this forum is that the results can be difficult to interpret too.

If your current swab comes back negative, worst case you could quickly return to the clinic if you have a second outbeak.

I really just wanted to raise the issue because when I was trying to get a diagnosis I was slow getting to the clinic. Got a negative result back from the swab and made the mistake of assuming I didn't have Herpes. A few months later ended up infecting my girlfriend, which is a source of huge regret for me.

    hey Ciara,

sorry to hear your having a hard time! But it gets easier!!

when i first got tests i was having a really bad outbreak! i had to take 1g of valtrex 3 times on the first day then 1g twice a day! think i had 10 days in total!

the lignocaine helps to pee but i didnt find it much use other wise! i cleansed up to 4 times day with warm salt water! i also found that tea tree oil mixed with coconut oil helped dry them up!

vaseline helped me to as i had bilateral ulcers and they liked to stick together(torture)!

pain killers, sleep and ice packs also helped!! also avoiding food high in argine like nuts and pasta/cereal! try increase you lysine intake!

    feel free to message me!
