Recently diagnosed with Herpes Simplex 2. Only ever had 1 partner (husband), none prior or since. Husband does NOT have HSV2 and neither does his girlfriend of 2 years (we in divorce situation), both have been tested and both are HSV 1 & 2 negative . How can it be caught by only one person? Had it dormant since childbirth or...?

What type of test did you have done that diagnosed you with HSV2?

Hi. I figured I’d ask in here. So back on nov 2nd i got tested and my test came back equivocal at .97 for hsv2 and 40 for hsv1. (I got tested back in July and my hsv1 was also at 40 but hsv2 was negative). On dec 6th i got tested again and the hsv2 was 1.38 (from labcorp) at about 11/12 weeks. I personally had another test done on dec 12 from quest and I?t came back at 1.62 at 12/13 weeks. Can the difference be due to different labs or do you think it’s be cause I’m still building antibodies to the virus? Should i check the IGg numbers at 16 weeks or is I?t worth getting the western blot test now? Just looking for you opinion. Thanks

Did you have a risky encounter you wanted to test yourself for afterwards, or were you just testing because? Variations are natural, and different labs and test kits can derive different results, too. Although the trend is upwards, it is not sharp and you have pre-existing HSV1, which can trigger false low positives for some people, so I wouldn't worry too much. However, you have not tested at 12 weeks yet, and if there was a risky encounter you are worried about, I would test then. If no recent encounters in the past three months, no need and it's probably false. Western blot is good at 16 weeks post-exposure, just fyi.
