Herpes simplex vs HSV 1&2

Posted , 1 user is following.

Recently my girlfriend took a test for all STD and she ended up with 2 different result. Her herpes simplex was negative but positive for HSV 1& 2. When she left the doctor called her to star she has herpes. She asked the doctor for information and she brush her off stating that she has more patients that if you want more information to look it up or schedule another appointment. I need help understanding this because I'm on my way to get tested but don't know how can there be 2 different results. Some please advise.

Herpes simplex and HSV are the same thing, so I don't understand what was meant either. Best she ask for a copy of the lab report.

What is the exact wording of the results, test type, numbers and all?

Perhaps it's a typo?? Did she have a swab done as well? She is definitely positive for HSV1 (commonly oral from childhood), and looks to be positive for HSV2, but pre-existing HSV1 can cause low false positives for HSV2 by IgG, so she may not have the latter. That is not why they said negative, though. I can only guess it's a mistake, or they did a swab and she was negative by swab.

So my question if it a typo does that mean she has it. I'm still going to get tested to be sure.

I think the word "negative" is the typo, not her numeric results. Regarding the latter, please refer to my comments above.

Okay i understand but how could someone make a typo tho with that being serious

Just my guess that it's a typo! If I were her, I would call the clinic and speak with a nurse, if possible, since her doctor sounds rather rude and dismissive. Or try the lab directly, but they may not take enquiries from patients. Can try, however, if the discrepancy is on their lab report.
