Sometime ossification developers after THR due to debris from wear of the poly cup and metal fretting into tiaaue can build up in tissue causing ossification..  Heterotopic ossification (HO) is defined as pathological bone formation in soft tissues, for example in muscles, where tissue is bones from debris build up. I am due for another revision have ossified tissue from the poly cup fretting in surrounding tissue which needs replacing soon. I have little pain from it however I go in for X-rays every 6 months to review the areas for damages which can eventually cause dislocation.

Im not sure what your asking but many clinical studies have shown that THR is prone to this condition and is a common issue. I have experienced this condition in all three hip replacements over the yeats. Are you experiencing any pain issues?

My THR was a year ago and my follow up visit was yesterday. The consultant showed me the bone growth on the x-ray and said to make an appointment next year to review. I have never heard of this before and didn't have it with my first hip replacement. Is it likely to spread and what treatment is involved? I do not want another operation. He said not to worry but I am worried. Can you give me anymore information from your experience please. He said it is very common after hip replacement but I have never heard anyone mention it before.

      Thanks

Julia ( I did have pain but not anymore)
