Hi everyone! Just checking in

Posted , 5 users are following.

A year ago today, I was admitted to hospital.  I remember posting on here sometime before, telling everyone of my fears (I was absolutely petrified!).  I had no idea if I would be better or worse, after the operation to replace my left hip.  Afterwards there was a little blip when I had a Pulmonary Embolism - but that all seems so long ago.

Anyway - update.  I LOVE MY NEW HIP.  I love my bionic leg (as we call it) and the fact I can walk, go shopping, even run again!  I have very very very little pain (the odd brused feeling) and the other hip now gets tired long before this one.

To anyone who is scared, thinking of pulling out, or has any concerns at all I really hope that my little note will help put your mind at ease.  My husband said to me before the operation to ask him in 6 months and then a year if it had all be worth it...... my response?

HELL YES!!!!

Thank you that is reassuring. I am nearly 7 weeks post op and cant manage without one stick. I do worry I will always need a stick! But know that won't be the case it's just how I feel right now.

All my progress seemed to be in the first 5 weeks and now I can't see any progress. Just waiting for the next stage!

My Dr told me not to worry when I was late throwing away the stick.  Really just keep exercising, keep walking and all of a sudden everything comes right.  I have a real spring in my step now, but it has been a year!

Thank you. I'm seeing the specialist on Tuesday for my 6 week check- at 7 weeks.

I will be taking my stick, not confident to go without and don't want to fall over! I am convinced that recovery is in such tiny steps that we don't actually notice it happening but then you realise you've done something you haven't done before. And of course the horrible pain has gone away......x

Very true!  I don't miss that pain at all.  I still used my stick at 8 weeks and beyond a little as I walked a bit like a penguin. (waddle waddle) so had more physio and went to the pool to strength the muscles on the outside of the thigh.  It also took me a long long time to be able to stand straight on one leg ( the operated one) Now I could yoga!  It will come, it will happen, and then you too can say it was all worth while in a big big way.  Good luck and keep exercising! xx

Glad to hear your success story .

I am 13 weeks post op now and hip doing well my prob is that because I didn't do very much for 2 months everywhere else aches now . I am able to do  more work around house and garden and have had my 13 month old Grand Daughter for a couple of hours  at a time but last night every muscle and joint seemed to be hurting it was as bad as my hip !

I suppose it will improve ?

Mary, I am with you all the way!  I find I ache so much especially my thighs and back. Once I get going its fine, but after sitting for a while .... Ouch. As you say, hopefully it will improve. I am 10 weeks and still keep up exercises and walking so fingers crossed x

I still ache (a little) if I do too much or sit too long, but it is NOTHING like the pain I was in before.  I put that down to getting a bit older.  The improvement and lack of real pain though makes me want to jump for joy :-)
