Hi, Everyone - My left side is weak, is this possible with PMR

It's been a long time since I have been on forum.  I was diagnosed on November 2014 and put on 20mg Steroid.  I am now on 4mg and seem to be doing ok.  I have been doing some walking (20 mins) whch is great for me.  But my left calf muscle pulls and I have to stop or take a rest.  I am delighted that I can walk, couldn't this time last year.  Also my left upper arm muscle seems to be weaker even though my dominant side is right.  Now my left shoulder is playing up, don't know if it's muscle or bone that hurts.  Any suggestions would be grateful and thanks in advance.

Hi Pat I am experiencing the same problem as you.  The rhumy sayes it's myofascial pain, my right side is fine, staying at 7.5 pred for the time being before tapering down. Have been to Bowens which eases the pain for a short time, some days I seem to cope with it my Dr suggested I take naproxen and paracetamol to help with the pain. Since Bowens my leg is a lot better my arm still painful. Regards Tisser

Hi Tisser, thank you for your comments.  It's good to know that there is someone else who is experiencing this (not that I wish it upon you).  I'll be making an appt. soon with my gp.  Thanks Again.

I was going to suggst something similar to Tisser - it may be myofascial pain syndrome or it could be something else - but it sounds more like a muscular imbalance thing than PMR itself. A physio would be a good place to start  - and like Tisser, I'd be consulting my Bowen therapist.

PS - Bowen may not address the real cause so only provide short-term relief. Mine was sorted by having a wisdom tooth out - it was affecting my bite and putting strain on my back muscles. Other things can affect your bite and a dentist may be able to shed light on it. Or one leg may be longer than the other - all sorts of things.

Thank you Eileen, I never would have thought of the myofasial pain syndrome and I heard you speak of it before.  I know that even if your bite is wrong it can effect so may things.  I'm making an appointment with dr. for next week and then will research physios (local).  Again thank you.  Regards Pat
