Hi,

Further to my messages posted on 29/7 and 8/8. Eight days ago i had an op on L4/5 as i had bulging prolapsed disc and compression of the left L5 nerve root, the pain in my left leg is loads better and the consultant says it should go completely within a few weeks. My problem is, one week before the op, i started to get pain in my right thigh at the front and in the calf! I had never had pain in my right leg before and went for a MRI scan, the consultant says it doesnt show anything significant but if i still have the pain in 3 wks he'd like to go back in and have a look, he's thinking it could be the right L5 nerve root and i may need facet joint hypertrophy! Has anyone had 2 op's this close together? Im only 34 and just want this to be over, i can't believe this has happened to me. It's bad enough to need a back op but to need 2 in a month is so scary. I was petrified about the first op and now im worrying again. Can anyone give me any positive feedback?

    Hi

I had prolapsed discs at l4/l5/s1 in feb06 which ended up causing cauda equina syndrome, i had a laminectomy and disectomy. I am left with bilateral leg weakness, bladder probs, balance issues and the most horrendous pain you can imagine! My surgeon says i need a fusion, i'm seeing him next week. does anyone know what the recovery is likely to be?

    thanks:?:?

I and 2 sisters have had a really weird life with our spines. We all have rod instrumentation and trips to remove portions of the hardware. We are certainly not free of pain but better. It is my feeling that if your spine is mechanically unsound you should have it repaired. The nerve damage can become permanent. We are instrumented and fused from C1 to L5. It is my opinion that you should not have the disc removed. It's there for a reason. Have instrumentation instead and they can keep your disc. If your problem is because they removed your disc, it may improve over time. It hasn't had time to heal and allow the nerves to cool off.
