Hi,
How about some positive and good news.....
I was/am a dedicated sportswoman, and ran every day for decades. Last year, after having four months of extreme agony due to sciatica,(massive slipped disc) and being unable to walk or sit, I had an op in May. At times, I felt like life was wretched and that sport was a thing of the past.
After the op , which took over two hours instead of the normal half, I found myself with a pain free body. I have now learnt to cycle up mountains, can walk indefinitely and have even run again.
The sad thing is that before the operation I could find no-one saying anything good about treatment and felt condemned to a life with painkillers. There is life after this debilitating "injury" and with careful management (another good excuse for not digging the garden) normal activities can be resumed very quickly.
Have faith in your surgeons!!

I could be reading my own story looking at yours the only difference I had my op last March. I was back swimming after 6 weeks, and bought a stairmaster in August and betwween the two do a min 3 sessions a week, I also walk about 5 miles a day with my two dogs. I did belive my running days were over especially as it was my 2nd op (1st one 8yrs previous). On Sunday I did a 4 mile mile run the 1st time in 16mths and it was fab!! My back is fine (legs are sore but a good sore!!)
To anyone reading this I know it seems impossible but keep on at you GP's / Surgeons get the op and your life will come back. I take no painkillers and havent since 2 weeks post op .. its gone, fixed, hard to belive but god its good.
Heart felt wishes to all of you and may you soon be pain free xxx

It's so good to hear that I'm not alone in my pain. I had my ruptured disk diagnosed last November after 3 months of agony. Here I am still barely functioning. I miss my walks, I miss the fact that I had a hectic chaotic life with 3 kids and horses. I was given a date in July,on nhs,for microdiscectomy but due to the fact that my pain is getting much much worse (I seem to have lost the ability to turn the pain off) I have taken decision to fund op privately. Which I don't even agree with, but I feel so let down by current system......... I'm so sad and fed up with having to grin and bear it. But, I must buck up and look to future as op is booked for 9th March.
Fingers crossed,
E x
