Hi

I am a 49 years old male with a prolapse disc c6 and c7, I won't go into to much detail only to say I was misdiagnosed with frozen shoulder,a tear in a muscular and a pinched nerve. It was'nt until I change Doctor who said that I need a MRI scan that things change.

I payed for my scan (£595.00) and thats when I found out that I had a prolapse disc. My Doctor then had to find a Neurosurgeon, none in Kent where I live. I was refered to Kings College London where I met Mr Bassi who said I need an operation, an Anterior Cervical Discectomy.

I can't post the web address for this but if you email me I will send it to anyone who wants it. At this morment in time I am waiting for the the phone to ring to tell me that there is a bed available for me as my operation is tomorrow, 7th Aug.

I have read all the posting on hear all I can say to you all is that get an MRI scan 1st, physio, accupuncture and pain killer are no good unless you know what really is wrong. I been there I know my chesmist better than I know my partner. As for going to hosp I am not looking forward to it but it got to be done, because I can't live forever with this pain for the rest of my life.

Blue

P.S Will come back to you all and let you know how I got on.

The phone has just rang I am going in today.

:yikes:

Firstly I hope the operation was a success. I was very interested to read your comments as I have been suffering from the same symptoms and told the same diagnoses as you but have finally been diagnosed correctly. Now I am waiting to see what treatment is recommended. Please let me know how you get on with your recovery.

    Very Best wishes

hope all goes well for you.I had the same story as you first with wrong diagnoses.and then like you refered to kings ,and same prob but between c5/c6 pushing agaist spinal cord wich was damaged had operation this was five years ago removed disc fused veterbrate together then had a carbon fibre cage inserted around joints.was ok for a while but after about six months the pain came back and have had severall other scans but no other ops as told they dont like to toush again so having to live with the pain for life now with drug treament to try and keep pain at manageble leveland to try and control muscle spasms to many drugs in fact as I dont like to be taking drugs. But afraid have now been told after all this time that I will need them for rest of my life witch has really put me in a stressfull mood as they make me fill drowsy most of time and as i can not now work I am finding it hard to cope with most day to day tasks.the worst drug off all is the fentinall patch-morphine 75mg higest level wich is the worst one have to change every three days and this does take its toll after the first to days on third day have no energy at all and really feel bad. now having to return to hospital for eight week course on cronic pain managment HA HA.what that will do I dont know as no matter what they have tried over the last five years hasent worked on thing that has happened is the pain is getting worse and at times unberable but as I keep trying to say to myself life must go on .not for me but for my family.I try my hardest to still keep happy for them and others around me. sorry if I carried on and can only hope and pray that it is a successfull operation for you and that you recover fully with out all the pain that you have been putting up with. But please if you are still having probs after the operation after some time do not let them keep putting you of and saying it will get better because belive me I wished it did but as I have said it came back with avengance and only hope yours is succsesfull and you can lead a normall life. please fell free to contact me for any information and I will gladly try and help.

once again sorry for this long reply but thought I would put you in the picture as it has not only been me this has happened to and others are having the same sort of probs .they have put it down to nerve damage and spinall cord damage that does not recover.

Hope you do not have this problem but fingers crossed for you that you recover fully .

    Take care

    best regards

Hallo, I sincerely hope your op went well and you are on the road to recovery. I posted a message on this site dated 26/11/05. I am still waiting to hear about a fusion op at Newcastle. At the moment with the warmer weather I don't feel too bad, the pain is manageable especially with all the help I get from my family.

I hope you have friends and family to rally around you.

    good luck and best wishes
