Hi,
I am approaching my 23rd birthday in 3 months and have just been diagnosed with my 3rd blood clot in 3 years!
My first happened when i was 19 and i spent my 20th birthday in hospital as the doctors weren't sure what it was causing the pain in my leg. After 4 days they did a 'doppler' scan and found a clot. I was put on Warfarin for 6 months and went on my merry way!
6 weeks after coming of Warfarfin i got another clot in the same place, this time i has to be on warfarin for 20 months, and came off it in December 2005. I also had a lunch scan done as i was complaining of chest pain so they suspected a PE. Luckily nothing was found.
A month ago i started gettign the familar pain in my leg - but worse. Went to A&E and surprise surprise i have another one. This time it's worse though as it's in a major vein in my leg not just a small one. I've seen the haematologist and had all the tests but as yet they can find no known reason for this to keep happening to me. They've told me know that i'll probabaly be on anticoagulation therepy for the rest of my life!!! Lucky me.
Anyone else had similar experiences?
:D

yes! I had my first DVT when i was 23..but of course it was not diagnosed. Had one after both babies...but it was called something else..it wasn't until I was fifty two that I was rushed to hospital not being able to breathe that it was correcty dignosed. Two hours before this, I was being sent home by a doctor with "a Virus".
since then I have had 2 more...
It would appear this condition is genetic. So I too am on warfarin for life.
However..Don't despair....Just feel happy it a) It hasn't killed you and b) you are now monitored and the condition is controlled.
I am 61 ,active and So happy to be alive....
:D
If you are on warfarin do be careful what you eat. I have found mangoes, red lettuce, cranberries etc all upset my INR just keep a tabs on what new foods you eat if yer blood range varies wildly.
Good luck to you all reading this...and remember there is life after a DVT....even tho yer leggies look a mess and it's hard feeling provocatively sexy in those compresion socks!!!!!

"Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella, Zarah and Gianvi have been linked to the risk of blood clots which can cause pulmonary embolism. Experts believe Yaz and Yasmin have a prothombotic effect due to the progestin drospirenone or drsp. Drsp is a diuretic which can cause an increase in potassium. Unsafe levels of potassium in the blood, also known as hyperkalemia, can disrupt heart rhythms and slow the flow of blood. This can lead to blood clotting. Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella, Zarah and Gianvi blood clot side effects are more formally known as thrombosis. Thrombosis is the formation or presence of a blood clot (thrombus) in a blood vessel. If the thrombus breaks loose and travels through the bloodstream, it is a thromboembolism. The clot may plug a vessel in the lungs (pulmonary embolism), brain (stroke), gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, or leg."
