i would just like to know if anyone who has had this op I had acut 27staples and still have pain soreness especially after walking around and doing housework. It's frustrating as I don't know why this is so and no Doctors can enlighten me. Would love to hear from   Anyone who has had this op just to know if they too are experiencing the same thing. Thanks for reading 🌻🌻🌻

I, also, had a right hemicolectomy last November.  In my case the residual soreness disappeared after a week or two and there was no post-op pain after just a few days.  I suggest that you make an appointment with the surgeon who operated on you and put your concerns to him or her.

By the way, my op was by keyhole surgery techniques so that I had just three small incisions, about half an inch long, through which the op was performed and a longer one used to remove the excised section of bowel.  Operations using a more conventional techniques could result in the post-op problems lasting longer.

Hi Maxine. I had an acute extended right hemicolectomy 18 months ago. I found it quite uncomfortable for a few weeks and could not sleep on my sides or turn over. I also developed an infection in the wound which took a while to heal. Look out for an incisional hernia - but I believe the infection contributed towards that. That hernia, another infection in the wound and cellulitis have all been fixed. I doubt if you'll have any complications. It all takes time and patience and as Anthony wrote, see your surgeon if you have any concerns. You will probably have a follow up appointment after a few weeks anyway. Hope all goes well.

    Hello Maxine,

I had a right hemicolectomy end of March this year (21 staples). Has your doctor mentioned the likelihood the pain is from adhesions? What I have noticed is that I need to drink more water than I used to before the op, and have taken to drinking Gatorade and those sports drinks.

It's now 7 months after your surgery and I would hope the doctors have investigated the possibility of a leaky anastomosis (where the small bowel has been rejoined to the transverse colon)., and ruled out hernias and the usual suspects?

I notice I have to be careful that the waistband of my knickers, outer clothing isn't too tight. You might like to consult with a physiotherapist for advice on how to perform the tasks with housework so there's less aggravation, and become more aware of how you are using your body now that it's had this major modification.

If you're not getting any joy with the doctors you have seen, consider changing until you get an answer. Don't accept being fobbed off.

If this pain is consistent after exertion, then drink more water before, during and after whatever you are doing and see how that goes.

Also there are tissue salts that are available from health shops, so that's another avenue: have a chat with a naturopath.

I've had minimal post-op pain but I got caught out a few weeks ago when I carried too heavy a bag of groceries and it felt like a 'charley horse'.

The sensation of adhesions is like pulling off duct tape, or a really stubborn bandage on the inside.

    Hope this helps.
