Hi I have problems with my kidneys or bladder

Hi I had a brain (meningioma) tumour 5years ago. I had 2 surgeries to remove tumour and then radiation and the radiation didnt work. So I had 3rd surgery to remove it. It was all removed. I was on dexamethasone for the swelling and the radiation. As a result of the steriods that I had to take ,I am not producing my own steriods , my adrenal glands do not work. I have to use hydrocortisone. Also i am blind due to the radiation. I have developed a problem with my kidneys or bladder. When I go to the toilet my bladder won't empty completly. I usually spend 30mins to 1 hour to empty my bladder during the day. At night it can take 1 -2 hours to feel empty. Although I always feel that it is not completly empty. It starts off as a normal flow of urination then decreases until nothing more comes out. Even then I still feel I need to urinate more. I have been attending a incontinence and bladder nurse who contacted the Rehab I attended and they suggested it could be a result of my complicated medical history. They suggested a catheter. I was wondering if you would have any further advice or suggestions on this matter. As I really want it resolved soon as I feel my life is on hold..Thanking you in advance Sarah

Hi Sarah, I am only asking this because I have recently been diagnosed with Vaginal Atrophy that actually is quite common, however many women dont even know about it. I dont know your age,but Vaginal Atrophy also can affect a persons bladder and uretha, gynological exam would be needed to diagnose VA. Potential treatment would be localised hormone replacement therapy which also is supposed to help uretha irritation, feeling the need to go often, burning etc. Just an idea.

Wow, youve certainly had some battles to cope with, l guess you might have had a cystascope to see if theres a reason for your bladder not emptying properly.  Mine didnt, though l dont spend as long as you trying, maybe 5-10min, at times l tend to bare down into a wad of kitchen roll, when l feel its not emptied property, seems to put less strain and make it more comfortable. A cystascope showed mine is due to having pocket flap things on bladder wall, which l saw on scope. lf you check out the c.o.b cystitus and overactive bladder,  site there will be more info and advice about it, they specialise and those with catheters can also advice, best wishes.

Thanks for the message Lynn. I have only had a bladder scan and all it showed was my bladder wasn't emptying properly. Not a cystascope though. I am awaiting to have an ultra sound. I might know more then.
