Hi I have rehuatmoid arthritis and I take tablets for it

I've been to see my doctor today and I've been given some antibiotics for cellulites so do I need to stop my tablets for my arthritis please can any one help thanks Michael

    Depends on the medication. If you are on methotrexate you should stop while on antibiotics. Best thing to do is phone rheumatologist/rheumatology nurse for definitive answer

    Although some antibiotics react with methotrexate their are a couple you can safely take with it, in theory because this is a prescribed medication for you your GP should be aware of all the medications you are taking and therefore only prescribe those he knows are safe, but as we all know GPs are not always super observant so just check with your pharmacist who dispensed them and he will know better than any one whether the antibiotics you have been prescribed are ok to take with methotrexate, ones that contain trimethoprim-sulpha you will definitely have to drop the methotrexate.

    It really all depends what you have been given, please check before taking any

    Michael, if it's possible, plunge your affected leg into a bucket of cold water. It will give temporary relief for a while.
