Hi,

I'm 46, and I think I may be having some Menopausal symptoms. I am the most horrid person to live with at the moment, my kids suffer, my husband suffers and I don't know what to do! I am having what I can only describe as hot/cold sweats. One minute I am hot and the next I feel cold and shivery, it seems like when you have a fever from an infection. Is this what hot flushes are like? I don't get all red in the face, but I feel terrible. I also have an amazing ability to shout at evryone really loudly, usually for no reason, I was going to leave my husband 2 days ago, I am insufferable at the moment. Mood swings isn't the word!, I have no energy, and really not much interest in doing much at all, I fell fat, ugly and can't stop eating. Pleases can someone tell me if these are symptoms and what is the best way to treat them. PS Off to see the Doc on Tuesday, maybe she can help me out.

Hi, I read your e-mail and just wanted to say that I am feeling just the same as you are. I dont know if that helps to know that your not alone but it made me feel better in a bizarre way to read of your experience. The menopause is awful for what is suppposed to be a "Natural" event in our lives and I wish there were somewhere yu could turn for help that wasnt trying to push HRT at you or sell you expensive supplements! Good luck anyway and I do hope you feel better soon.:D

hi im 47 and started jan this year, i am feeling this way too but not so angry yet , but i do have hot flushes and feel down to add to this i suffer from hayfever so i am so lifeless ive even given my job up , didnt like it anyway  . I hope the doctor doesnt fob you off with anti depressants or hrt coz these dont help in the long term, they only supress the symtoms.

The only things im am trying to do now are changing my diet, and taking cod liver oil capsules , only one a day is needed, when you feel like you need to shout try go for a fast walk or run or some kind of exercise. Its hard for me too i love my food and find myself eating lots of junk , but im really trying. I think talking to your family too , sort of apologizing in advance incase of any shouting, well why not! good luck , here if you want to chat .

I am 52 and have been going through the monopause for about 4 years. I don't want to sound smug but I can't see what all the fuss is about. I have had the occasional hot flush but that's about all. I keep waiting for all the dreadful symptoms I have heard about but so far they have not materialised. I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago and was told I would go into an early menopause. I hope this helps some people who like me dreaded the onset of the menopause.

All my friends r at various stages in menopause and everyone has different degrees of suffering.I don't believe it is just a fuss as some r truly having a terrible time.We need a miracle cure-not antidepressents and HRT.Something simple like a pill under your tongue to redress the fall in hormones but not affect everything else.Any genius out there come up with something????????????

    hi

well after 5 mths period free, and coping with the usual flushes etc , had a period yesterday!!!! ok so i was thinking this is too good to be true, but ive not gone this long before its normally 1 month then maybe 2-3 mths, then normal for a while , i had a word with my gp and she said until you,ve been period free for 12 mths then youve not gone post-menapausel. so maybe more waiting, oh what it is to be a woman. gail

I am 52 now and have been having menopausal symptoms for 2 years, although they are getting much better now. I thought I could ignore them at first, but the hot sweats were the worst. I was put on Tibolone, which definitely helped, but then was taken off it, as I have a history of DVT. So, I tried natural stuff, and found sage tablets and sage tea (bit of an aquired taste!) along with Evening Primrose oil worked wonders. The sweats were so bad that in the middle of the night I have been known to lie naked on the cold tiles on the kitchen floor! Good luck everyone, it does stop eventually!

    Hello Brandy

I am on the list for hysterectomy because of a large fibroid. You say that you had yours at 42 i take it that you still have your ovaries. I've been told that i will probably go into menapause anyway after hysterectomy within 2 years. You seem to be sailing after your hysterectomy can you tell me why you had it in the first place and whats your opinion on keeping ovaries. i have that decision to make.

    Thanks

    Mandy

Mandy I had my hysterectomy at 45 years two years ago. I haven't had any evidence of the menopause yet. It is a relief to be pain free after all these years. If at all possible unless they are diseased try to keep your ovaries. They will go into 'shock' directly after a hysterectomy. Mine kicked in again about six weeks after the op. Some womens dont at all. Try to remain positive about your op.

    Hi Mandy

I have my hysterectomy due to an extremely large fibroid 4 years ago at the age of 48, kept my ovaries but still no signs of the menopause yet.

Although my mum had her hysterectomy at the age of 44 and had her menopause within 2 years.

Both of us were advised to keep our ovaries, so that \"we would grow old gracefully\"
