Mine seems to be going this way, anxious to hear any responses, 12 weeks out. Still lots of elevating resting, icing, and only.working part time.

    Good luck to you,

I had a TLHR in Jan 2017.  At my follow up appt, my doc talked to me about the different leg length as PT couldn’t believe the difference. My doc said that before he starts looking into shoe lifts to balance me out, he is going to see what transpires after he does my right hip, as that one also needs done. He said he will try to even me out as much as possible that way versus using shoe lifts.

If you don’t have to get your right hip done also, I would talk to your doc to see what options he/she might have. Perhaps shoe lifts would be the way to go for you?  My husband always says I waddle like a penguin right now! I hate it! Can’t wait to get my other one done!

Dear Victoria, obviously I have no idea what the leg length difference is but if it is say an inch or more then I would put it down to surgeon incompetency. That being the case I would be looking for a surgeon with lots of experience and a good track record at a different hospital to carry out the surgery on the other hip.

      Cheers Richard

      Hi victoria78386

I will nd my right hip done, but i lack condfidence now! I feel wen i stand up straight (or as straight as i can) in my bare feet, its like my bottom is sticking out & the whole area feels tight, also goes in2 a spasm/cramp at times, told surgeon this last wk,he says "these are complications of the op,which cant b arranged" Felt like it was "u just have 2 put up with it"

Two suggestions. Use two crutches until you are walking strongly with,a good well balanced gait and of course do your exercises and see a goon non McTimoney chiropractor for your back. Cheers Richard

      Hi RichardKen

I dont want 2 go back 2 crutches or stick,i feel thats a big step backwards! I do exercises everyday....I was told last yr,the reason i'm taking so long 2 recover,is that they took so long 2 do op! Bn fighting 4 op 4 yrs,but my age went against me!

    Hi Pauline

I am now 8 months post Tlhr and have a leg length discrepancy of 27 mm

I also have chronic but hopefully slowly improving back pain much helped by frequent visits to an excellent osteopath

I have had all my shoes made up and can now walk without a limp.

The nhs will alter 3 pairs of shoes initially and one pair a year there after

I will eventually have to have the other hip done but hopefully not for a few years . It’s worth getting either insoles or if the discrepancy is too big , your shoes altered a) to walk without a limp and secondly to give your back chance to recover

    Hope this helps

    Pam

Hi Pam,thanx 4 ur reply,i went 2 orthortics & was given 1 insole 4 my right shoe,no mention of altering my shoes, will have a word with GP....I have always felt surgeon was happy with his job & anythng else was'nt "his fault" saw him last wk & he said "unfortunately, muscle & tissue complications r a part of the op & cant b arranged" I had 2 give up work, cos of back pain at 54yrs thats 2 young 2 retire, not withstanding financial issues that brings....I also will nd other hip done, but lack confidence now.. As ur only 8mnths post op,i sincerely hope ur problems resolve with time!

No way to know if my issue was similar to this but 5 month’s post op I had severe lower back pain & went to a chiropractor as I felt maybe my gait was off causing it. When lying there for the first time he told me o e leg was 1 -1/2  in longer than the other but felt was due to my pelvis being severely out of line. After his initial adjustment he said my legs were the same length! He gave me a tool to lay with a folded towel about 2 inches under the pelvis side that he moved at least 1xweek to block as he put it to stay in place. It helped me immensely. I guess I was blessed! Will pray you find resolution soon!

I really don’t know but I was very appreciative to my chiropractor for giving me a tip to help keep it in place after he adjusted it, not only for my comfort but to possibly alleviate some future visits!
