Hi. I'm new to PMR

Posted , 4 users are following.

Just diagnosed and didn't ask questions enough! I am on 20mg Prednisone. Do I take the tablets all in one go? or should I spread them throughout the day. Also, can I take painkillers for mild headaches, etc. Also on Thyroxine, blood pressure medication and Omeprazole. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes you take them together with breakfast, I was on the same dose for Gout, 4 tiny tablets together and my Mother takes 15mg for Polymyalgia. They made me a little high and euphoric and energetic. I take Candesartan for Heart failure/Blood Pressure but I was taking Ramipril which made me very ill. I take 40 mg Omeprazole(2 capsules) to protect my stomach. I cannot comment on Tyroxine but I am aware it's connected with the Thyroid.

    Good luck

definately take steroids all in one dose with food morning , take adcal lunchtime and evening mealtime with food never take adcal and steroids together , paracetamol fine for headaches try and avoid ibuprofen aspirin etc not reccomended with steroids. dont rush reduction of steroids slow steady reduction with the aid of how you feel and blood test results , remember when you first reduce you get withdrawels for the first fewdays /week then things even out on the lower dose if however things get worse it means you how come down to low and you will have to increase again ,you will get to know how to cope better than the gp in the end just keep asking and we will answer carolk

Thank you Carol, there are so many things you remember to ask when you leave the surgery, I appreciate your comments and will alter my routine to take Omeprazole at lunchtime. Will probably be back with more questions, all of a minefield at the moment. Am I supposed to carry a medic alert card? Thanks Sandy

its ok to take omeprazole at breakfast time with steroids i have just discontinued mine after 15months because they were causing nausea and cramps in my fingers and legs but if you need them re a history of stomach problems then use them ,its the adcal that has to be taken away from the steroids these are medications to re replace calcium and vit d that i are needed to protect your bones . you do need to carry a blue card re steroids can be obtained from some drs surgerys or the chemists , you should always inform drs that you are on steroids and your dentist .dont worry you will get used to it all and learn to manage the conditon try and look at the other website with lots of info but keep asking questions knowledge is power and you can get there just hang on in there carolk

There is a sticky at the top of the PMR page which directs you to a website, located in the North East.

Go to it and read everything on it, including under useful medical information, Diagnosis and Treatment of PMR. . You need to educate yourself, knowledge is power. You are on a steep learning curve.
