Hi. I'm now 4 weeks post THR. Clicking feel in hip

Does anyone have any idea why I feel as though my new hip is clicking when I walk? It doesn't hurt but I'm very conscious of it. I asked the physio when she was here but she didn't know. I've not seen a doctor since the day of the surgery and wonder whether I should ask my gp? I'm not due to see consultant for another 2 weeks.
On a different note the physio also insists I use 2 crutches for the full 6 weeks. I'm quite comfortable around the house using only one - and am not limping this way. Has anyone else had different advice? I feel I need to progress to one crutch as much as I can with the aim of dropping them both within the next couple of weeks. Your opinions and experiences would be very helpful. Thanks

was told to use crutches if limping without. Inside one crutch at around 2 weeks, dropped both by 8 weeks. The used a fold up walking stick at times. Took it in my handbag and when tired and limping used it. Stopped that at around 3 months

Thank you Maggie. I've been using one crutch since around two and a half weeks so was surprised to be told to keep using 2. I'll continue as I've been doing. Thanks too for the info about the tendons. Not seeing any doctor, district nurse or anyone other than a physio (twice in 4 weeks) means there's no one to ask!! This forum is so helpful.

You are doing great !!!
I also was adviced to use my rollator (4 wheeled walker) for 6 weeks and limit furniture surfing in the house.
You just had major surgery where muscles, tendons, bone was cut, hip oint forcefully dislocated and protheses banged in place ... your body needs time to heal these damages..
The hip joint implant is rotating (getting up and down, turn, etc) in cup as well as taking pressure, like when you walk your weight will press it down
The purpose of the crutches or walker or sticks is to avoid a fall or sudden twist. Weight-bearing is safe immediately after surgery, but until the implants have grown into the bone, a process that takes 4 to 6 weeks or longer, a fall or other sudden twisting force on the leg can risk implant loosening or injury to the leg.
Using a walking aid also will prevent you from limping - we automatically go back to the old way of walking you see ..
You might think you are not limping, but you probably are by default
Clicking sound is not unusual and part of the healing process -
This can happen from a tendon, called the psoas tendon, rubbing against the new hip - I felt it mostly during turning the leg side to side.
It will disappear ..
Come back here any time and let us know how you are getting on, okay
have a great weekend
big warm hug

Hi Pippyj, I don't know about the clicking I'm afraid, but regarding the crutches, the physio at hospital told me I could use 1 crutch as soon as I felt ready. I did that from about day 4/5. It's wierd how advice varies so much. I think having to use 2 crutches isn't really practical, because you can't do much/ carry anything. (However I did continue to use 2 crutches outside.)
Wishing you all the best.

Thanks. You're right - with two crutches life's pretty impossible! Thanks for sharing the advice you had.
