Hi,

I've got my first appt with a specilaist, also in General Medicine, this afternoon, also because I have low B12, which isn't PA, but I had to wait 2 months for it. My GP said that starting me on the injections shouldn't affect any results, so I've now had 2 in total, once a month. They do not seem to help me get back to my normal-self, but I do feel slightly better than without them! It seems most people I've spoken to, do feel better after the injections, so I would suggest asking your GP if you can have these while you wait for your appt. so that you can start to feel more like a human! Again, speaking to people, it seems all different tests are performed. I was told that I will have a Gastroscopy (camera & biopsy down my throat to look in my stomach) as sometimes people with low B12 which isn't related to PA, can have stomach ulcers, crohn's or things related to your bowel which stop the intrinsic factor from absorbing the B12 from our diet which we need. I believe there is also a Schilling test to try to find the cause if the gastroscopy shows nothing, but not completey sure how that works. I think my appt today will just be talking to specialist & going through my history, & probably more blood tests, so they can discuss what procedures will be done & how. Hopefully they will be able to tell me a lot more, as i know many GP's do not know much about this. Hope this helps. Will let you know what the outcome of today is.

    Hi,

I have to say the specialist I saw on Wed wasn't the most helpful or pleasant of Dr's! Really, we just went over the same stuff i've already told my GP about my symptoms etc. He arranged for yet another blood test for PA & I had to sign a consent form for me to undergo a Gastroscopy (apparently will be within next 8 weeks!). The only good thing to come out of the appt so far, was that he told me I should have been having the B12 injections weekly (instead of monthly) for 6 weeks, then see from there. Considering I only feel a slight uplift for about 4 days out of the month, I can't wait to get them weekly, in the hope I can have a normal life & perhaps (fingers crossed) go back to work! Also I asked the nurse if I can have the injections in my bottom from now on, and she said I could, just that many people don't like stripping off waist down! Had an injection on Friday & now can't wait for the next one the following Friday! Have you spoken to your GP yet about starting you on the injections?

    Hiya,

No, I haven't spoken to my GP again as my hospital appointment is next thursday so only just over a week to wait and the last time I saw him he was very reluctant to start them until my consultant appointment took place. Hopefully this will benefit me slightly more than my GP's have.

Will keep you informed and thanks again for your response.
