    Jack,

Are you diagnosed by a neurologist?

Sounds to me like you may need a stronger dose. Been there. Carbamazepine 4 x 200 mg daily works well for me. I'm 55. Had it for 9 years.

    Welcome to the forum, Jack,

What dose of medication are you on and is it CR or XR Tegretol (look on the box).

You seem very young to be diagnosed with TN. Do you have any other medical conditions that might have produced this?

      Hi Jack,

It is so  interesting that you asked that question. I have found the same experience. There are hours where it does not seem to work and hours where it does work. I am on the extended release now and I just feel super groggy. My vision is also changing but I am not sure that it is from from the medicine.

Before I was on the chewable tablets and it seemed to give me a bit more control of when the pain was less. I am going to talk to my neurologist about it. Do you have a neurologist?

Yes I do have a neurologist. Tried one or two before I settled on the current one. I have also had Gamma Knife treatment in Sydney.

Forgot to say that I take a combination of Tegretol and Lyrica but I may ask shortly to try Gabapentin and Tegretol instead.
