Hi just wondered if any one has the same experiences as myself,

Posted , 5 users are following.

I'm male and 49 years old and have been on sotalol for the last 25years which have sort of controlled the svt s ,over the last year I've been experiencing a lot more episodes, including facial flushing

After eating ,feeling extreamly weak and lathargic as though my heart isn't pumping enough blood to my muscles ,I'm in the building trade and is starting to have an effect on my work .

I'm waiting for an appointment to see if ablation will help although the doctors don't seem to understand the horrible experiences I go through, and the fear it creates ,I don't know if anybody else feels the same ,I'm starting to feel I may have a serious heart condition I get so tired and feel my heart may give up . Any help or advise would be welcome ,John

Hi I understand completely what your going through I had SVT from birth

and I'm now 57. The last 5 years have been a nightmare with several attacks

a day, also with flushing. Was always able to control the attacks by holding my breath

and bearing down. But I had a couple that I couldn't stop and rushed to A&E

for the dreaded adenosine injection which slowed the heart rate from 200 to 70 bpm.

I found also that the Doctors and consultants do not understand the anxiety and fear

people go through. 3 months ago I had my ablation and haven't had an SVT attack

since, I still get ectopic beats several times a day but no more SVT. If you can

have the ablation then get it done, its worth the small amount of discomfort you go

through during the procedure. I was in and out the same day and it's changed my life.

      Hi John

I was diagnosed with SVT about a month ago, but have had symptoms for years and on different medications but none of them really worked. Whenever I had an ECG it was never picked up until now. I am on Bisoprolpol and they stop my heart from racing but still get palpitations. In fact I was awake most of last night wiith palpitations, racing heart and a feeling my heart was going to stop at times. I just started on a higher dose so hope this works better. I get tired, feel hot and washed out. If the meds don't work, I will ask my Dr If I can have the ablation.

I would thoroughly recommend the ablation. Although, personally for me it didn't work (I had it 5 years ago when I was 17), it modified it significantly and has given my life back...I can go months without one and when I do get one, it lasts 5 minutes or less. If my episodes ever become more frequent again (fingers crossed not) I would most certainly consider another ablation. The discomfort (and I say discomfort NOT pain) from the ablation is momentary and you will be back on your feet the next day - although avoid heavy lifting and exertion for a week or so. SVT is not fun, and I understand the fears and horrible experiences....but there is a procedure out there that has a excellent success rate - it could give you your life back!

Also If you think that you may have another underlying heart condition, get checked and demand to be taken seriously - there are lots of investigations they can do etc.

Also are you on other medications as well as sotalol? I was on sotalol for a period of time and I was VERY lethargic and weak and generally didn't feel 'healthy'. I came off them and found improvements. I wonder if a discussion about medications with your doctor would be worth a try?

All the best with the future John and for the appointment re: the ablation

Thankyou for your input, I have put up with the svts for 25 years and have had to avoid any vigourus sports ie five a side football ,squash etc if I ran up the street for a couple of minutes I would have an episode of svt the sotalol seemed to cope at first now it's not as effective ,what I can't understand is the hot flushes, after eating or a pint of beer ,the feeling of my heart changing rhythm but not svt and feeling very weak ,I'm seeing a go on Monday to go through it again but they don't seem to understand but il insist on some action this time .

HI John. You need a cardiologist and tests. Big meals are out, gulping cold drinks are out, you must take a different way now. Read all the other forums, including the COPD one, you will find plenty of advice there. Good Luck - Jay

Hi jay , I'm seeing a cardiologist in July to discuss ablation ,I don't think it's copd that's sounds very serious .but I'm not sure if the other symtoms are to do with the svts because I get them after eating or lifting heavy objects or working doing my job as a joiner the effects can last for hours after as though there not enough blood or oxygen in my blood but I'm not an expert so stumped ,I'm hoping the doctor on Monday May help but not to confident with GpS they don't seem to know a lot to me .

In July ? its only May now. I have had the SVT for 18 months now, very annoying. Luckily I bought insurance a couple of months before. It has changed my life a lot. Verapamil 2x daily. When the tingle starts under my ribcage I STOP, riding my motor bike home the rattling sometimes  puts me straight, or I crush half a pill, lay down on my LEFT side in fetal position and put loud tv on so I cant hear the rattle. Had to change diet, bread, cakes

CONTINUED- big meals, coffee, all NO.Bought a juicer but cant drink or eat a LOT of anything. Heaving sacks around, chasing hens out of my veg .. pushing a friends car .. NO. Research for yourself, look up your drugs on drugs.com and see the side effects - good luck . . .

Hi John, yes i was there but I was the one that said no to the ablation finally after about 10 years of discomfort and fear that no one understads unless they have svt too, I got the ablation...I won't lie, I was scared cuz there are risks...but 12 years later I'm still symptom free!!! I'm 45 and can't imagine still dealing with it. You don't want attacks when you are up high or carrying things...sometimes at work I'd go hide in the bathroom and strip down to my underclothes and wipe myself off with wet paper towels while trying to get my heart to slow down...it was awful...I'd say tell them you want the ablation but make sure it's done by an experienced cardio doctor! Good luck and take care!

It's nice to know I'm not alone, thank you for your reassurance, yes I'm scared but hearing you have been 12 years free is a great help. Thank you for your support. John
