Hi Newbie needing some advice...

I am hoping someone can help... I went to my GP with back pain relating to my periods and ovulation and she basically told me that its probably mechanical as conditions such as fibroids and cysts don't cause backache, she did send me for a scan to rule things out which I had on Friday. The Radiologist/sonographer who did the scan said at the beginning that she wouldn't discuss results at the time and that to make an appointment with my gp in about 10 days time...I had a pelvic ultrasound then needed a vaginal scan and at the end she said to make an appointment when i got home for Monday as my gp would get the results that day. I am forever bloated and suffer from severe pain during ovulation and my periods. I am now terrified they have found something... What symptoms are normal with cysts as according to my doctor you shouldn't have any until they rupture! Sorry for waffling I know I should wait until tomorrow and I'm probably worrying about nothing.

Hi Samantha, your GP is talking nonsense.  If you read some of the posts here you will see that back pain is a symptom of cysts and so is bloating.  As a worrier myself I know it is pointless to say dont' worry but if they find someting on your ovary insist you are referred for further investigations and don't let your GP fob you off - you have all the classic signs of a cyst.

Hi samantha think u may need to change gp for starters cysts on the ovaries do not cause back ache or bloating I should know as unfortunately I'm one of them people who do have a cyst on my ovaries . If anything the pain would occur on either the left or right hand side of ur tummy at the bottom if u have a cyst on the ovaries. And as for the lady who did the scan she can tell u if she saw anything reguardless if there is anything there or not. Don't worry urself change docs and get it seen to that's what I had to do keep me updated hope everything goes well with u xx

    Hi Samantha,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a terrible time of it.  I have a functional cyst on my left ovary and only went to the doctor because I was in excruciating pain.  From my experience the pain is very severe and intense coupled with backache and also am severely bloated.  I also don't have much of an appetite.

If I was in your situation I would go to another GP.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Samantha

I had fibroids years ago and my

Doc then said that was probably why

    I had bad back!

As for cysts I think it varies as different ladies experience different symptoms, I had backache,

Bloating, pains in ribs and severe

    Dizziness with my

    Cyst . Still have the

    Dizziness post op. Try not

    To worry too much xx

Thanks for all the replies thankfully the scan came back clear but I am now waiting for a gynae referral to investigate the possibility of it being endometriosis. Its good to know there are people willing to listen. thanks again.
