Hi everyone. I am female and have had ibs since I was 15-16 years old, I am now 35. I get diarrea and bloating mainly but sometimes can get constipation. If I lift something too heavy I feel like I have \"strained\" my stomach and the pain starts. Sometimes I think it is related to food. I have fainted every now and then, sometimes 8-10 months apart since the age of 15. About a month ago I woke in the night with severe pain and usual pattern, I get to the loo but have trouble passing anything. I start to sweat loads, go hot and cold, vision starts to go and next thing I come round on the floor. I get up shaky and cold needing to go to the loo. Last time I hit my head on the sink which scared me but I was lucky that my husband was home at the time. Last night I woke (1.30am) with severe pain, went to the loo, managed to pass something, pain started, hadn't woke my husband so knew i had to get to the bedroom to get help. He is not sure if I fainted. I only remember needing to get to the bedroom and next thing being aware that my head was on the doorstep and my husband asking what I needed, as in medicine/help. I have medicine called Viadil Forte that I use (It relaxes stomach) but I am not getting the warning that I used to so am not always able to use it before I pass out. Some doctors say oh its ibs, another has said no definetely not and yet another says it is the pain that causes me to faint not ibs. Does anyone else pass out with ibs? Please help me, it gets me down so much.

    Hello all,

Like many of you, I've been dealing with same issues of stomach cramps, the explosive diarrhea and the passing out, I have been diagnosed with IBS which appears to have progressed into cramps, diarrhea, and passing out. I am 65 years old, I just celebrated my 65th birthday recently and as a matter of fact, I had an episode on my birthday. It is a scary feeling, especially that feeling of losing control when you pass out. I've actually only passed out once, and I'm thankful that I didn't hit my head. On my birthday, I started cramping on the way home, I made it in the house and started to feel faint, I immediately laid down on the floor on my right side took some slow deep breaths, then the diarrhea started, yes, I had a mess to clean up but I didn't have a brain bleed from falling and hitting my head. I have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety and I take medication, I feel that my triggers are related to increased stress, food (fried, spicy, and dairy), and dehydration. The reason that dehydration is an issue is because I have overactive bladder, which causes me to dehydrate pretty easily. I have had these GI symptoms now for about 10 years, and I'm very sensitive to every feeling in my body, this is one of the benefits of anxiety , so I monitor everything that's going on in my body, and I've gotten the triggers narrowed to these 3 things over the past 10 years. I'm getting ready to order a portable toilet and pads for my car, just in case it happen when I'm not home, I refuse to let this condition cause me to become a recluse, I have dealt with agoraphobia where I was unable to leave the house or go to the grocery store unless it was early morning or late night. I will continue to fight this through prayer, faith, medication, picking up tidbits from threads like these and keep living without fear. By the way thank you for the peppermint.

57 year-old female in the same boat here in Missouri. My first syncopal episode was in my 20's. I woke up with my rear end still on the toilet, but my shoulders were on the edge of the tub and my head was hanging down into the tub. I was drenched with sweat - I was lucky I was not injured and I have no idea how I ended up in that position. I woke up looking at the bathroom wall upside-down and I was like WTF? After awhile, I realized I was lactose intolerant and I began using Lactaid, which seemed to have worked for awhile, but I don't think that is the only reason for this. Actually passing out did not happen again for years, but I continued to have episodes where the pain was so excruciating that I nearly pass out about 4-5 times per year. I have completely lost consciousness 4 more times over the past 5-6 years. Three episodes, I woke up on the bathroom floor and another time I was in a living hell trying to get to the bed and woke up drenched with sweat face down on the bedroom carpet. Luckily, I have never been injured, which surprises me. I often have to lie down on the bathroom floor when an episode strikes. I pull down my bath towel and lay on it, then get my butt back up on the toilet just in time. One time I crapped myself in the car with sudden, explosive diarrhea (luckily, I got a plastic bag under myself when I felt it coming and nothing got on the car) and another time, I had to pull over for about a half-hour and recline in my seat in fetal position, I was in so much pain and drenched with sweat. I have never sought treatment since I generally start to feel better once I have eliminated and I read that this is common and no cause can be found, but I probably should get checked out. However, after reading this thread, it sounds like the docs will have no answers for me. I am to the point now where I am considering getting adult diapers so I can throw one on when I feel an episode developing and just stay in bed to avoid falling. Once it's out, then I can take a shower and clean up. I am on no medications and I am otherwise totally healthy were it not for THIS.
