hi so glad to find a web sight about thyroid problems ,i was told i had a overactive thyriod in 2000 ,i was treated with carbimazole,i was on that for a year until my thyriod normal again.however in december 2005 i stated to notice i was ichy all the time and i my heart was going quite fast too ..i had a bllod test which came back normal, so i thought it was just me being stressed out .in june 2006 after a private MOT i was told my pulse rate was very fast and my thyriod was high.seen my doctor who told me even though my last bloodtest in december 2005 came back normal it was a high risk normal. i asked the doctor why i wasnt given another bloodtest every 4 weeks but was told it wasnt up to her but the lab who does the bloodtest.surely everybodys level is different to ech other?? i m taking carbimazole again and im been taking propranolol. seen doctor in hospital and was told i have graves to which explains the puffy eyes and soreness .also talked about iodine treatment but wants to see have i go with carbimazole first.... 4 weeks on my thyriod level is normal again and im slowly coming off of propranolol . my eyes are still puffy and i hide behing my glasses now as people always ask why my eyes look puffy or whats wrong with your eyes. i will keep you posted back to see doctor in hospital in 3 weeks .. please let me know any imformation about gravs and iodine treatment ,want to konw how long my eyes will look like this thanks everyone:shock:8)

My experience is that I can remember as far back as 10 years ago - always having sore eyes - buying lots of products for puffy eyes - going to bed earlier and earlier in the hope that I would not look like I had not slept for a week - staying off of dairy products in the hope that it was allegy related - then last christmas I notice one eye was bigger than the other.Ironically I did not go to the doctor as I felt he would tell me I was imagining it - so I stuggled on and found out later that friends were discussing what was wrong with my eyes but not asking me.
So then I take my son to the doctor and my doctor keeps staring at me - to cut a long story short I was taken to hospital that day and told my thyroid levels were too high and were very dangerous. HELLO!! had been telling the doctors for years that I was not "feeling well" - they convinced me I was depressed and an anxious lady.
So not am on Carbimozole and trying acupunture and yoga - desperately want to give up the medication as it has had so many bad reports.
My eyes are worse (sorry) but the good news is that I can and will have an operation on the puffy lids and protruding eye and will look fairly normaol again.
I have looked at images on the website "thyroid eye disease" and they show a couple of people who have had the ops and they look good.
Dont worry a lot of people get their eyes back to normal fairly quickly - hope you are one of them
good luck:lol:
