Hi I am a 44 year old mother of two and also have Graves.

My experience is that I can remember as far back as 10 years ago - always having sore eyes - buying lots of products for puffy eyes - going to bed earlier and earlier in the hope that I would not look like I had not slept for a week - staying off of dairy products in the hope that it was allegy related - then last christmas I notice one eye was bigger than the other.Ironically I did not go to the doctor as I felt he would tell me I was imagining it - so I stuggled on and found out later that friends were discussing what was wrong with my eyes but not asking me.

So then I take my son to the doctor and my doctor keeps staring at me - to cut a long story short I was taken to hospital that day and told my thyroid levels were too high and were very dangerous. HELLO!! had been telling the doctors for years that I was not "feeling well" - they convinced me I was depressed and an anxious lady.

So not am on Carbimozole and trying acupunture and yoga - desperately want to give up the medication as it has had so many bad reports.

My eyes are worse (sorry) but the good news is that I can and will have an operation on the puffy lids and protruding eye and will look fairly normaol again.

I have looked at images on the website "thyroid eye disease" and they show a couple of people who have had the ops and they look good.

Dont worry a lot of people get their eyes back to normal fairly quickly - hope you are one of them

    good luck:lol:

hi there thank you for telling me your story about graves . i have seen some improvment with my eyes over the last two weeks there not as puffy ,i seem to be getting on with the carbimazole tablets , my thryoid is still normal and i have put on some weight .. about half a stone. i waiting on another blood test should have the results back shortly and i go and see the doctor on the 28 september so it will be intresting to see how that goes. i was taking off the propranolol tablets for a while but my pulse rate has gone back up .so im back on them now . not to happy about it because i tend to see or feel things that are not there which can be scarey . my children think im going mad.... thanks again from charlotte
