    Hi Rebecca

IBS is a lot of trial and error, try keeping a food diary then you will be able to cut out your trigger foods and find alternatives. Do some research on the FODMAP diet.

I find peppermint tea calming. Also too much stress is bad for IBS, I know its not always easy to remain calm.

Good luck and hope this helps.

I agree, try the Low Fodmap diet. Onions, mushrooms and garlic are major triggers for me. I’d also suggest you scrutinise every product you use - for example some supermarket own brands of tomato ketchup contain a lot of onion, guaranteed to cause me problems. I tend to cook all my meals from scratch so I know what the ingredients are. That  way I can avoid my trigger foods. Everyone is different of course, which is why the Low Fodmap diet is helpful in identifying your personal food triggers.

    Good luck,

Try looking at the low FODMAP diet Rebecca. I have IBS and Coeliac disease, and am finding it very helpful. It cuts out things like legumes and a certain amount of veg and fruit (basically any foods which ferment in the gut. There’s lots on line. Google low FODMAP foods.

Hi, I eat sourdough bread, and gives me no problems, sourdough bread is fermented, it's not like commercial made bread, the Lactobacillus bacteria in fermentation breaks down and digests wheat flour makes it far easier on your system, and this process releases the nutrients in bread, so could be worth trying, info online.

Hi Rebecca, unless you are coeliac or it makes a big difference, cutting out gluten may not be a good idea, I think gluten has many positive benefits, this is what I've read.

Try the Low Fodmap diet with the help of a dietician and try a food diary.  Everyone’s triggers are different.

Hi Rebecca, you should have been referred to a dietician especially if this is a new diagnosis. If you cut out big food groups you could do more damage than good. Just speak to a health professional 1st.
