Hi there

I am 33 and was diagnosed with PCOS around 1998 and have undergone lots of tests and experienced lots of symptoms, 1 being very heavy periods, which always puzzles me as the main symptom of PCOS is no periods ? but following the ultrasound the doc says that this is the cause

I have been taking Metformin (4 tablets a day) for about a year now and can honestly say it has been great and I no longer suffer with the emotional symptoms like before and have regular periods which are still very heavy, and take tablets for this also !!i am now under going tests for diabetes and my GP is unsure whether taking Metformin has quickened this ?? who knows eh ! but my blood sugars seem to be quite erractic at strange times, I had a glucose tolerance test a couple of days ago and am awaiting the results from this.

I struggle to keep my weight under control and I am probably about 2 stone over weight even though I eat healthily and exersize 3 times a week, this does get me down and I sympathise with anyone who has PCOS as no diet seems to work.

The one thing that has especially upset me is the pressure that I feel about starting a family, the specialist has emphasised that I need to act sooner rather than later and will need fertility treatment to assist, but I have no partner and my GP said that the NHS have a 3 year waiting list for fertility treatment and they have a cut off age of 37, which means i need to find a partner who wants children with me in the next 6 months to be given a chance, which is a extremely difficult situation to be in emotionally.

I suspect there is quite a lot of women in my situation and it would be good to know of a chat forum if one exists ?

Regards

Sid

Hi Sid, you asked about a chat foruum and I thought you might like to try this one: www.babyworld.co.uk it's got loads of women going through many different things and I've found them great to talk to. Not sure if it's what you're after but I hope it helps.

I hope things work out for you real soon.

    Kind regards

    Chelbysmile

    Hi Sid

Don't assume fertility treatment means IVF. I took clomid and have a fab 9 year old son. If you feel pressured you won't meet anyone or conceive anyway. Look at the site the previous post mentions and ask doc about orlistat for your weight - I have the weight issue and it is helping me.

Hi, i can understand the pressure to get a partner and get pregnant. Ive just been diagnosed with pcos im 36. I have just met someone new but not sure if they want more kids yet as they have one with a preevious partner and its still far too early to talk kids! I was curious about the emotional symptoms you mentioned. I have been just awfull the last year, constantly wanting to cry or overreact to things. I wasnt sure what it was as ive been depressed in the past but i dont feel depressed now, just really emotioal alot of the time. I was always pretty calm and well balanced emotionally before so im struggling to deal with it. Is this something you experienced too?
