Hi There

I'm trying to find out if anyone else on Ramapril is suffering with depression as well. For the past few years I have suffered with bouts of depression and have been taking Ramapril as well. I am now begining to wonder if the 2 are linked.

Thanks for reading.

Julie

I too am experiencing depression, have been for a couple of years at least. Was put on three medications for high blood pressure, and have found a link to the diuretic and was wondering if the others, including Ramipril(10 mg daily) and Amlodipine were connected. Have been on these three medications for 4 years.

Will be seeing my Dr. tomorrow to try to convince them of the connection. Wish me luck

I have been suffering from depression for a number of years (like 30) and started taking Lustral 50mg x 2 per day about 4 years ago. My blood pressure started to go up last year, my doctor was concerned so put me on Bendroflumethiazide which made is come down. However, 2 weeks ago I went for yearly review ( my usual doctor not available - saw a different doctor) my blood pressure had gone up to 170/100. I was nervous as I had not seen this Doctor for years. Went back to have it checked with the nurse - it was 150/90 but as I was due to have an operation so made another appointment to see a doctor (the only person available was a doctor I had never met before) he put me on Ramipril to get it down in order to have the surgery last week (blood pressure was 136/75 - the surgery went okay by the way! Will have to see if blood pressure stays down.

I seriously believe that the main cause of my blood pressure is the result of my anxiety which causes depression if I don't take the Lustral but because it it being suppressed it then causes high blood pressure. I always appear to be calm and collected even under a great deal of stress - but have never been able to stop this anxiety so take the medicine and get on with it and am glad there is something to make me feel better even if I have to take all these things for ever!

Hi there I am a Pharmacy student currently in my 3rd yeat. Just doing some research on Ramipril. Can i just say that there is a link between Ramipril and depression- its an uncommon side effect which may be present in some patients using this particular medication (extract from the British National Formularly). I would advise you to go see your doctor and state a feeling of depression is noticable when taking Ramipril.

    Hope this helps

    Hi,

I've switched to ramipril appox 6 weeks ago from felodipine which gave me headaches and I feel much better physically (apart from teh cough which I'm hoping is temporary). I'm sure though that my anxiety levels have increased and my moodswings are all over the place! I don't know how to tell if it's a result of ramipril without having to come off it to see . . .any advice?

I started taking Ramipril (5mg) several months ago and soon after taking it became very tearful and easily upset on an almost daily basis. I went back to the doctor and he was surprised by my symptoms but put me on 2.5mg to see if I felt any better. I do feel so much better taking the lower dose and am no longer experiencing the depression. My BP remains under control taking the lower dose.

    Hi,

Its only been since my GP doubled my dose of Ramipril to 10mg (4 weeks ago) that I have noticed along with the cough, the headaches, the aching body, the diarrhoea and stomach pains and my lack of concentration (I actually forget, mid sentence, what I am actually talking about)just how tearful and depressed I have become. I am now wondering, if the mild depression I have suffered for the past 5 yrs (exactly the same length of time as I have been on Ramipril!!)is down to this drug!

I have never felt as low as I do at the moment, but to be honest I can actually see a light at the end of the tunnel (and its not a train coming this time!:shocksmileand am keeping my fingers crossed that when I go and see my GP tomorrow he will change or alter my tablets and I will start to feel more like the old me!

If it wasn't for the comments on this web page, I would probably still be plodding along thinking it was just me. Thanks to you all.

    Lisa
