Hiatal Hernia and food getting caught issues

I have had a hiatal hernia for about 9 years or so and lately food as been getting stuck in my throat and I have needed soda or sparkling water to burp. I feel like I am choking or have to vomit most of the time. I had an endoscopy and my GI Doctor didn't find anything new. Any ideas on how to help the food go down?

I don't want to scare you but PLEASE keep seeking advice. My husband was like you, he had a hiatel hernia and couldn't get food down without water.  He also had dreadful'heartburn.'  His GP kept saying give it time, give it time when he did eventually agree to send him for an endoscopy it was something far more serious.  So please keep on at them

I'll talk to my Doctor about it. I am having a mess of issues and this one seems to have gotten worse lately. I just had an endoscopy a few months ago but I feel that something might have changed lately. Thanks for the warning.

    Jonah,

As with the other reply, see your doctor.  I have had a similar problem, long term use of lansoprozole generally worked wonders.  Very quick relieve of swallowing problem for me, and if I stopped it came back in 1-2 days.  There are long term use concerns with this class of drugs and ranitidine is a good back up.  See what your doc says, good luck.  MLK

Though that was exactly my initial solution, soda did not help but on the contrary worsen my case of globus sensation. It took about 6 months for globus to subside with aggressive PPI. My doctor explains that my globus was a reaction of the acid that constantly irritate my esophagus. It complete disoriented my nerves resulting to feeling of food stuck in my throat when there is really nothing there- its the nerves misreading  my throat movement. I got into 3 months of dexilant 60- completely avoided all those in the gerd-free diet- food as mostly liquid and I lost 20 lbs. there are occassional bouts of globus but not as worse as before. no soda
