hiatus herni after the operation

I am currently waiting for a hiatus hernia operation I'm getting a partial wrap as my oesophagus is weak, I am wondering how anyone who has had the operation how things in life changed after, what can you eat? What can you drink? Do you still have the feeling of food stuck in your throat? Do you think the operation was worth it?

Thanks in advance

    Ian,

you have asked some excellent questions. I had to have the surgery as my stomach was in a position of twisting and could strangulate the organs below it. I had been to emergency a number of times with serious problems. Now it is almost three months since my surgery and I am a lot better BUT I do get very gassy, rather embarrassing after I eat, particularly after dinner. I also burp a lot and it is different than how I could burp before. It is shallower. I find that carbonated beverages and spicy food really upset me. My bowels don't function the same as before either. If you can manage your symptoms with medicine then you may not want the surgery. It is irreversible. For me the operation has saved my life and that is worth it .

      Hi linda

I've not been given a % I've just been told that my oesophagus is weak I'm not sure what to do about the op having read some negatives about the procedure on the one hand I'm fedup of the constant indigestion but am scared about how life changing the operation will be although my lifestyle has changed so much now Im scared of the op if I'm honest but the hernia won't get any better. Linda I hope you get sorted keep fighting for what you believe.
