Horrible to hear that you've been diagnosed with this, I recently got diagnosed with with a Hiatus Hernia too.

Have you tried the usual tablets such as PPIs or H2 Blockers? I don't like tablets but in the meantime they can provide some relief or stop the reflux for some. Please keep the thread updated with how you get on, I'm also looking into the surgery as I'm taking a lot of tablets and nothing helps. Unfortunately for me I was never provided a follow up or even told the size of my hernia. I've been told that usually they will only operate if it is large or if you don't respond well to other methods.

I wish you the best of luck!

You're in a very similar situation to me, I'm only 21 but for me my biggest pain is from the reflux in my chest and back.

I would go see your doctor as soon as possible, for me the problem has been ongoing for so long now that I've learned you just need to tell the doctors straight how bad it is so they will take you seriously. I was messed around so much originally trying so many different tablets that didn't work, if you feel like the tablets are ineffective then definitely let them know. As for anxiety all I can say is try to not worry too much about the future and enjoy what you can now, anxiety can definitely amplify the pain. Mine got so bad that I had to see a neurologist because I started to develop twitches or "nervous ticks". I stopped socialising with friends and also quit the gym for months after going daily for years, anxiety is powerful. I got help for my anxiety and did CBT, I'm still suffering from GERD but mentally I am much healthier now.

I know its so easy to say but try to focus as much as you can on yourself, if you have noticed any triggers for your pain log them down and avoid them. Sorry I couldn't give more helpful advice.

yeah my back and chest really hurt at times I didnt know the reflux could be causing it I thought the hernia its self was but they feel so sore at times and yeah when I have my anxious days I notice things are much worse i am on anti anxiety meds because of it but i think they need upping i just havent dared to i cant wait for the day i become one with the pain and dont panic im looking into possible meditation to learn coping mechinisms i know a few people with these hernias and they just get on with it im starting to think maybe the reflux is causing most of the symptoms and not the hernia its self so much as i think ive had this since 2017 as i was in pain with my chest for 6 months and no one knew why it got blamed on anxiety so when the pain went I joined the gym early 2018 but here we are again and thankyou for replying its been comforting to know im not alone x

i recently got the same diagnosis. chest pain is the worst and im constantly burping no matter what im doing except lying down. Tried PPIs and they dont do anything. I went from working out everyday to i cant even eat bc its so uncomfortable. Im trying to get another doc appt or second opinion as all ive been told after EGD is to try Reglan for 2 months and see.

Just wanted to share my experience with Reglan. It may work perfectly fine for you, bit it threw me into a SEVERE depression unlike anything i have ever experienced. I would not get out of bed for two weeks and all i did was cry. Missed close to a months work. I finally researched the drug myself and found others with similar issues. This is after complaining to my doctor first. So if you feel the slightest depression start after taking this, consider Reglan as the source. I have been dealing with GERD for over 30 years and went through a lot of drugs till i found one that helps. It's Nexium. I know you tried PPI's , i tried others too, even generic nexium. Only name brand Nexium works for me. It's a pain being expensive and hassled by insurance companies, but don't know what i would do without it.
