Hiatus hernia

Hi,

I've suffered for over a year now with what i thought was heart problems. I have been diagnosed with a 5cm sliding hiatus hernia and I'm just after someone else to tell me they are having the same symptoms as me. I get really tired most days, i have the usual acid reflux but i get such a sore burning chest, almost like I've swallowed vics vapour rub! my back, behind my left shoulder blade is in bits almost everyday, i have shooting pains in my left arm, shoulder, neck you name it!! it hurts my left nipple and just under my left armpit. i cant sleep most nights from it all, as we speak I've got such a sore chest, almost like I've been running in the cold and my nose burns. I get palpations and sometimes my vision is not 100%. Doctors said it was anxiety so i currently take 30mg of Mirtizapine and am on 30mg Lansoprazole twice daily. I'm currently waiting for the consultants to get in touch so i can beg for surgery. If anyone out there has symptoms like mine please please reply to this post. It literally ruins my life and i cannot continue with it for much longer.

Thanks,

Michael

i am dealing with very similar symptoms. at first i thought it was heart problems but i had a stress, echo, and holter monitor done and everything came back mormal. i have chest pains that dont feel like heart burn, sharp pains in my left arm, shoulder, arm pit area, and jaw. i have learned to associate these pains with my 3cm hiatal hernia. the anxiety that comes with a hernia makes you feel like youre actually dying.. trust me. for the past year ive been thinking im dying of wither heart attack or stroke bc of the symptoms that the hernia creates, and that the anxiety worsens. try to learn to associate your pains with the hernia. i was diagnosed with health anxiety bc of this. now whenever the pains strike, i know what it is and i repeat it to myself over and over again until the anxiety passes. the anxiety WILL make your symptoms worse. if you let your brain think that its your heart, the pain WILL worsen. find ways to conquer your anxiety first, and take the steps to help your hernia at the same time.

heres a good tip. every morning when you wake up the very first thing you should do is stand up and drink some room temp or warm water. immediately after you drink bring your hands up to your chest and your elbows straight out to your sides. keep them there and stand on your tippy toes and let yourself fall back down so that your heels make a thud onto the ground. youll feel a jolt across your body from the impact but what its doing is using the weight of the water to pull your stomach down from the diaphragm. do this about 20 times and once youre down hold your arms up high straight above over your head and do 20 quick breaths, almost like panting. make sure theyre coming from your stomach and not your chest. this will tighten your diaphragm so that the stomach doesnt slide back up.

this exercise has helped me so much and you can repeat it throughout the day. i do it in the morning and whenever i have acid reflux coming on bc that means the stomach has moved its way back up through the diaphragm.

do this exercise, conquer your anxiety, and associate the pain with the hernia and not your heart. you have to convince yourself you are OKAY.. because you really are. i lived through hell for a year due to my hiatal hernia, but if you can conquer your mind, it will make all the difference. stay strong, you got this. if you have any updates please let me know! i feel that going through this is much easier when someone else is experiencing the same that you are.

    good luck buddy
