Hi all.I have a 3 cm sliding haitus hernia and rather alot of symptoms lately all with witch i can kind of deal with exept one,and its breathing issues or to put it better i have the stamina of a old man and i am only 33.when i walk stairs or pick something up i have to stop and catch my breath.I would go to the gym 4 times a week and now well i am basicly house bound.went for the lungs and heart tests and all seems fine there.its 5 years now that i have this thing, but the last few months i am struggling as not being physicly able is getting to me.doctors seem to be a bit lost here when it comes to this and feels like i am on a goose chase with these tests.Does ANYBoDY experience this?

I have a similar experience-often of sudden physical disability- mostly after exertion or bending! Today I found relief from exertional breathlessness, by breathing in sharply, deeply several times, with amazingly fast relief!
It's important to exercise, or bend, on an empty stomach --ie before, rather than AFTER meals. I find too, that gentle but mildly challenging exercising, is essential to maintaining strength & well being! For me, light gardening works well.

I had this same issue. It was very difficult to do things. My specialist discoverd my problem was the hiatal hernia was pressing on my diaphragm which was causing the pain and difficulty breathing. I had surgery for mine and it fixed it

Hi Kristo. I'm sorry to bother you. I just found this post, (it shows as two years ago). I think I have read all of the messages, but did not see, or maybe missed, final results. There were a lot of 'try this, try that' responses. Honestly, there were so many that my head started spinning.
I believe that Eric tried changing his diet; had a couple of setbacks...I'm not sure what after that. Did anyone ever have the hernia surgery? Did anyone ever find the magic cure???
Thanks,
Amy

your breathing problems are caused by the stomach sliding into your chest from the 3cm tear on your diaphragm at the valve at the top of your stomach 3cm of your stomach lining will be in your thoracic cavity pushing against your lung causing your breathing symptoms .and tightness in your chest as it slides up and down with your daily activity there is a key hole procedure you can under go if your doctors feel your are suitable . it is called a Nissun fundoplication which involves returning the portion of stomach out of your chest and back into your abdominal cavity and sowing up the tear in your diaphragm and wrapping the stomach around your oseophagus similar to wrapping a scarf around your neck and this is done to tighten up the valve at the top of your stomach I had surgery to repair a sliding hernia 24 years ago unfortunately the 3cm tear in your diaphragm can increase to larger size i.e 10cm presenting you with more symptoms you have to remember that your diaphragm is a fine sheet of muscle which is constantly moving during our breathing process
I hope this information have given you a clearer understanding.

your breathing problem is due 3cm of your stomach lining sliding into the chest and pushing against your lung what you have to also to consider is the fact there is a risk that your 3cm tear in the diaphragm may increase in size through time i.e 10cm with more of your stomach lining sliding into your chest there are variable symptoms with is type of hernia i.e gas bloat the feeling of fullness noise coming from chest when breathing heartburn extreme fatigue and reflux there is a surgical procedure that can repair your sliding hiatus hernia which is called a Laproscopic Nissun Fundoplication, which is basically suturing your torn diaphragm and wrapping your fundus Stomach around your oesophagus similar to wrapping a scarf around your neck which tightens the oesophageal valve at the top of your stomach and prevents your stomach sliding back into your chest. you may have found this info a bit daunting a tear in your diaphragm will get bigger as it oves up and down during thee breathing cycle I hope this info gives you a better understanding as I speak through experience having had a lot of surgery to repair a sliding hiatus hernia

So where is everyone so far in their lives with these problems in 2018?
Been reading all the posts on here yesterday and just wondering how everyone's coping with their lives? I have this as well for the last 7 months and I'm over it completely...
