Hiatus Hernia and Stomach troubles - Palpitations, Belching, Gas, Spasms.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to reach out and thought I would do it on here to see who else has had similar symptoms to me regarding my Hiatus Hernia.
I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia about 5 years ago as a sliding 2 cm and it never used to cause too many problems apart from the occasional onset of heart palpitation episodes and chronic belching, burping and gas.
It is something that I managed to control and become aware of without becoming too emotionally engaged in with no treatment or pills needed to help.
I have never had the burning acid sensation that many people get with this, however I especially recently, seem to get heart flutters, palpations and racing heart along with stomach spasms.
So I guess I really just want to know why and what is causing these spasms, as no doctor has reassured me of what is happening with it.
To describe it as best I can, It feels like I get a big jolt or quick back and forth, wriggling movement, that happens just below my Sternum in the central area (where the hernia is protruding) - It almost feels like it's a worm moving about in that area when it happens.
Not only that, often when this happens it simultaneously sends my heart into a really strange spin of rapid beats, almost like my heart is vibrating lightly but really quickly.
I have had it on a few occasions where I engage anxiously and send myself into a full blown panic attack as it catches me completely off guard, however sometimes I can just be aware of it try and distract myself as quickly as possible and it subsides within a few minutes, usually cold water to my body and face shocks it back to normal rhythm again.
I have been with a naturopath who has given me some natural medicine to help with my body and she has diagnosed me with low stomach acid so I am taking digestive enzymes to help with this.
I am otherwise a 28 year old slim male who eats well and is pretty healthy and this thing has taken over my life the past few months! getting a sound sleep these days is a rarity let me tell you!
If anyone out there who understands what I am talking about with my experiences with it then that would be so helpful and reassuring for me, if you could reach out and reply to my comment.
Equally if there is anything I can do to further get tests, I.e ultrasound, another endoscopy etc, to help understand this, then that would be most appreciated, thanks!
Jamie.

I've been having the same symptoms but no visible hernia, does it sometimes feel like your stomach flips?

Yeah 100% I get these sudden jolt like feelings which feels like spasms and it is often when gas gets trapped there.
Need to find out where and why the gas is getting trapped there that is the hard part but the vital part in controlling this.
I have got a stool analysis coming back soon I will let you know what the findings show about my digestive tract as I am sure something is going on like parasites, SIBO or fungus creating this Gas.
Thanks,
JAmie.

I have the exact symptoms you are describing coming from the middle upper abdomen. I went in for an endoscopy and they did not find a hiatus hernia. I did a CT scan and they found an inguinal and an umbilical hernia. Been having these symptoms going on shy of 3 months now and have been looking for answers. Your post is the first i have seen with exact same symptoms. I have an appointment with a surgeon in two days so I will keep you posted. Hope to get some answers to help others as well.
