Hiatus hernia possible symptoms

After 8 long months had endoscopy and they found a small hiatus hernia. Last Christmas suddenly found horrible fuzzy feeling in upper stomach. Have incessant catarrh and this weird log type feeling comes on after a short distance walking.its worse after eating or seems so. Went to the doctors who referred me for heart check.they found arteries clear and no apparent heart probs though nitrate spray and tablets do seem to clear the congested feeling for a period. Put onto omeprazole and an anti histamine to try to dry up the catarrh.

the doctors say the catarrh is a red herring but I am not sure as for years it has been affecting my voice and I have a permanently dripping nose.

Determined to fight this and tried to keep walking but now get shattered after short walks. I used to walk miles. Also hills are hard whereas I used to climb

b mountains.I am desperate for help and if anyone connects these symptoms with a small hiatus hernia would love to know the best way to proceed.

Hi.  Have you looked up the information on catarrh yourself?  Information I read states Doctors do not regard it because it in short is difficult for them to deal with and has no real cure but in time can move from the head, ears, throat to bronchial and so on. Look up Catarrh and then the chronic catarrh, causes, symptoms etc ny times article. What I have read online about symptoms about hernia says there are no symptoms or ill effects but reading forums many people give list of symptoms. Similar symptoms of reflux/GERD can be in addition to hernia or may not. You do not have to have one to have the other.  Reflux is/can be associated to gallbladder issues although a different type of reflux and responds only to a different type of medication. I, myself, when taking a few of the first prescribed medications  for reflux, had issues with being winded just walking up the stairs in my home along with feeling bloated neither of which I had off the meds. You may want to look into the side effects of the prescription s you are taking also. Everyone is different and react differently to medications. Discuss with your doctor and if needed get another doctors opinion as well.  Good luck.  You shouldn't have to give up on your attempts to walk for your health.

Thanks for that. Think you may be right. This cocktail of drugs can be causing some side effects. However the nitrate tea let does seem to clear this funny catarrh type feeling in my gullet. I have been wondering whether even after a small amount of food with walking motion it touches on the hiatus hernia causing this log type feeling deep down which goes away the moment I stop moving. Then once the food has passed down the feeling goes somewhat and the tiredness and inability to tackle steep slopes is down to the medley of medication.

the problem is always that to get to see a reasonable doctor you have to give them 3 weeks notice and even then you get the feeling of being fobbed off. One even said maybe your problem is one of those that we can never identify and you may have to live with it which really inspires confidence.

Anyway I don't think it's my heart though that what the doctor is hinting at even though my stress test showed clear arteries.

I would take that response from my doctor as a definite time to seek another's opinion.
