HIDA Scan

Just had my HIDA scan done this morning. When my nurse injected me with the CCK I felt very mild cramping but after she was done it stopped. I was watching her and looking at the computer screen and my gallbladder, well what I hope was my gallbladder, looked very bright. Would all of that mean that my gallbladder is working fine? Of course I won’t know until I get my results but just asking the people who have gone through this. Thanks!

    Hi

from what I have read ,although I have never had a hide scan,

‘so is just speculation on my part.

i think that cocky is directed directly at the gallbladder , so it will indeed light up bright in that area,

‘that’s what it’s supposed to do I believe!!

and it’s also my belief that the Haida scan and cocktail makes the gallbladder contract ,hence the cramping.

so I would say no it doesn’t mean anything like that.

    untill you get yr results.

The some amount of radio dye has to be released from gb to bile duct within certain amount of time which they call ejection fraction, so wait to see your test results. Mine, the gallbladder showed up with radio active dye,but it did not eject to bile duct, so they said 0% working- biliary dyskinesia. The advice is to remove gb.

Hi biliarydyskines, thank you for your reply! Hoping to hear results tomorrow! Looking forward to knowing if this is my gallbladder that’s causing pain. I have no idea what I’ll do next if it’s not my gallbladder. Just have to wait and see.

My hide Scan showed normal I suffered for 4 years and told them to take out my call bladder and when they did they set the called latter was dead and not functioning if you feel sick after eating fatty foods or greasy foods then you call bladder isn't working properly if you can live without taking it out then do so if not then remove it remember low fat diet can probably prevent you from having surgery no sweets and no fright foods and no eating out

Hi sal, thanks for your reply. I’ve definitely cut back on the fatty foods and I take omeprazole once a day, but just started that last Thursday. But I am hoping I will hear my results tomorrow.

DId you get your results?  I just had a HIDA yesterday and had pretty much the same experience as you.

      Hi Amy,

Yes, I got my results. Turns out my gallbladder’s ejection fraction is 9%. Normal is 35% and above, which they probably told you.

I’m waiting to be evaluated by a surgeon for removal.

Thanks for the reply.  Good luck with your surgery.  Mine was 67%, so it’s not my gallbladder.  More tests to come.

      Hi Dev,

can you please  list out the symptoms that you are currently having ?

It took 5 years to master my condition, strick diet, fat free diet and no eating out. I can go about a year WITHOUT symptoms.

      Hi Biliary,

It started with pain under my right rib. Not a sharp, stabbing pain but more of an annoying ache. Then it started to wrap around to my back. That’s when my doctor diagnosed me with gastritis, only by pressing on my abdomen though, not by endoscopy. A couple of weeks ago the pain started shooting up by my right shoulder blade and on the right side of my chest. The pain isn’t constant, it comes and goes.

Do hida scan, to check gallbladder. Sounds like gallblader.

this seems to be a low functioning gb symptoms. I had exact symptoms almost 7 to 8 years back. But i did endoscopy and diagnosed with gastritis. Now i have gallstones. Do you experience any dizziness symptoms?

My HIDA scan showed 9% ejection fraction, so I am waiting to be evaluated by a surgeon.

I do not experience dizziness though.

Are you having your gallbladder removed?

My doctor first diagnosed me with gastritis and put me on omeprazole. Not sure if that is something I still have?

I had an ultrasound done which showed no gallstones then went back to her because the pain started happening in different places. That’s when I had the HIDA scan and diagnosed with chronic gallbladder dysfunction sad.

But I am grateful to have an answer for my pain finally.

This is how my case progressed in 10 years... around 2007 got lot of acidity and indigestion, the bloating pain was only on the left side, took omeperzole many times which subsided the problem. In 2009, felt pain on the right side thats where i checked the ultrasound, but it showed no stones. Was taking omeperzole and  anti-acid. In 2011,again checked for ultrasound and hida, hida showed 0% gb was working. Doctors suggested to remove GB. But did not remove so far. From 2011, i started experiencing dizziness/imbalance symptoms which is some time severe or mild based on my stomach condition accompained by bloating/burping and some time pain on right side. In 2016 , i had dirahiea for 6 months, thats where i did endoscopy and colonoscopy , it was diagnosed with gastritis. After taking colestipol, diarrhea got stopped. Took ultra sound again  in September 2017, the results are having gallstones. so if you look at my history you can see dizziness /imblance was added around 5 years after i got digestion issues. Now i'm at a point where i dont see any other solution than surgery. i have done dieting, excercise ,etc ...but nothing made me like 100% healthy. I still have the burping/bloating/ pain on the right side and some times on the left side with dizziness/light headed. Surgery is my only option left! I'm only 36 years old , male with normal BMI.
