I was diagnosed with HS a couple of years back. I have had abscesses and boils here and there throughout my youth. It wasn't until I was deployed to Iraq that it got out of hand. It seemed like when one was going away another was starting. I was diagnosed by an Army doctor and went through many surgeries and procedures while in the Army. When I got out and moved back to Boston Ma, It seemed that my problems were subsiding. I went about two years and only saw a few mild problems. However, recently I have started the fire academy and it seems my problems are once again coming back. I recently had an abcess that was probably close to the size of a golf ball in my right armpit. It was cut open and there was no drainage. It still is healing but also is still hindering my movements and training. Now I just woke up this morning and realize there is a small lump in my other armpit. It is so frustrating. The worst part of the disease is just living in constant fear of the next outbreak. I am going to see a doctor who specializes in HS and hopefully get a better grasp of this nightmare of a disease. I wish you the best!

From the sound of it, your flare ups are triggered with stress or by your emotions. Being in the army I can only imagine how stressful it is and going into the fire academy you have stress too. I have noticed that I get bumps when my emotions are out of whack ( especially  being a girl lol).

Rachel379 you can see if painkillers will help or just deal with the pain. This is what I've had to do for years. No creams that I have tried from the doctor has ever worked for me, when you go to your doctor you could ask to try a cream to see if it works on you.

      Hope this helps smile

Hello, I'm not sure if this is still relevant, but I always found ibuprofen worked really well for the pain as it helps to bring down the swelling as well, also for the cysts themselves I used hot compresses and that helped too, hope you're feeling better now! I know it's difficult but try and stay positive smile
