High blood pressure

hi have got high blood pressure.   Suddenly crept up on me. Went to GP last week and he told me to take a week’s reading at home.  It’s still high and I am freaked out about taking it!  Should I go back to dr or continue with taking it twice a day although dread doing it? Panicking now!   Tried to relax before taking it but heart rate goes up immediately I look at the machine.  Anyone else have this?

Is your blood pressure high ALL the time or just sometimes cause mine fluctuates too.  I will get several in the normal range under 120/80 then I’ll get a crazy reading!!! That of course sends me into a tailspin!  I also have terrible health anxiety and depression.   I definitely have the white coat syndrome when I go to the Dr.  I’m a mess and my blood pressure is always high there.

mine was in the normal to high range only a couple of weeks ago.   Then I took it last week and had two very high readings which has panicked me.  Took it again yesterday and still very high but I was in a state about taking it.  I guess I will just have to do it and go back to the Dr next week with the readings.  Thank you for your comments.

I have been taking my own reading for nearly two years and my bp goes up and down, somtime without any apparent reason. and sometimes with good reason. So dont get workerd up about it. Your doctor has aked you to do the readings to see if there is a pattern of if its a constant. Then and only then can they treat you effectivley.

One thing I would suggest is that you see if there is anything in your lifestyle that you can do diferently to reduce your BP. For example, take more exercise, reduce certain foods, herbal medicine ect. All BP tables have side effects so anything you can do to naturally reduce your BP to prevent the need for tablets has to be worth a go. I think you might just approach taking your own BP with a differnt view then. Thats what I'm doing with varied sucess.

    Good luck

Thank you for your advice.   I will continuously take it at home this week and see what happens.    As a matter of interest, I do take certain herbal medicines, milk thistle and high concentrate cranberry surely they won’t have an affect?   I eat healthily and exercise most days and am not overweight and I am 68.    Maybe that extra glass of wine in the evenings is not helping!

Hi Jenny. When I mentioned Herbal medicines, I meant taking them to reduce your BP. Garlic is a good one. both in tablet form and adding fress Garlic to your food. L-Arginine  is another Herbal Supplyment that help with blood flow and thus reduces BP.

Seek advice from your locak Heath Food specialist. Holland & Barretts are a good place to start if you are in the UK.
