High Blood Pressure and generally feeling unwell

I'm a 39yr old female. I have been feeling very run down, tired and have no energy. I have also been feeling excessively hot, dizzy and faint at times. I am overweight (I know that doesn't help). I have also been sleeping poorly. I have also felt quite stressed (mainly work related). So I decided to go to my GP. My blood pressure was 177/90 so not good but she said she wanted to do a blood test to see if I was anaemic or diabetic (my Mother is diabetic). I am also severely needle phobic. I went for my blood test last Thursday which for me was very traumatic as it took 2 nurses and eventually a male GP to finally manage to get a vein and take the blood. However, I received a letter from the surgery today stating \"with reference to your recent tests.... Dr..... has requested they be repeated in 3 months time\". The letter was dated a day after my blood test and I know they wouldn't have been back to the surgery until at least today. So now I am worried.... I do have an appointment with the Dr later this week but can't stop worrying. Any advice please?

It's okay. Don't be worried and don't stress yourself. You should be glad that your doctor requested you to repeat the test after three months, for me that would mean that maybe he's unsure of his first findings. A second test doesn't always mean that there's something wrong with you. Besides, if something was wrong (let's pray there's nothing wrong), the check up will serve as a caution for you. Always keep in mind that prevention is always better than cure.

I've been back to see my GP this afternoon. Most of the things they were testing for have come back ok - Liver ok, kidneys ok, thyroid ok. However, the main cholesterol test although ok showed that the lipids were a little high but she said with a healthier diet this should decrease. BUT, my glucose levels were higher than normal at 7.7. So I have to have another blood test in approx 2-3wks. She said if I give another reading of 7 or over then this is regarded as having diabetes. I know this isn't the end of the world but now I'm scared. I am TERRIFIED of needles and injecting so praying I won't be. However, things are not in my favour - I am overweight - something I am trying to do something about and have made drastic changes in my diet recently. My Mother is also diabetic so there is a chance I may well be. Any advice right now from anyone in a similar position would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I am in a similar position....but was told a reading of 8 or over on blood taken twice on an empty stomach was the criteria for diabetes ...I also have RA and my arms are bent so finding a vein is difficult for me too...fortunately I don't have a needle phobia but if you ask for the butterfly needle to be used for taking blood it is not so painful......dash it I've just noticed the date on your post but I'll post anyway ...it might help someone else
