An ECG measures the hearts rhythm and electrical activity.

If it shows up as abnormal, they will want to run further tests to define exactly what the problem is, maybe an X-ray as well or a scan.

The ECG shows whether everythinf is functioning normally or there is an issue. His BP is very high, I take it he is not on meds for it?

Is that question for me or was it meant for the OP?

That is very high BP, they would have put him on blood pressure lowering medication immediately.

ECG a Dr saying it is abnormal tells you nothing.

My husbands who has heart failure had before his diagnoses normal blood pressure, and normal ECG, but for minor electrical LBBB, which we were told was nothing to worry about, turned out the Dr's were wrong, with further investigation they found he had major problems.

I have become a armchair expert on heart failure, with no training whatsoever, just experience of my husbands journey.

You and your Dad will need to have explained to you what is going on, it may be quiet minor, or could be very serious, god forbid that is so, but even serious problems can be solved, the medications they can give you work wonders, and worst case he will need surgery, better now than after a heart attack, he just may be a very lucky 67 years young man.

"ECG a Dr saying it is abnormal tells you nothing."

I think that that statement is wrong. An abnormal ECG does point to there being a good chance that something is not right.

I would agree with the statement:

"A normal ECG, does not mean that there are no problems" just that it has not picked them up.

RHGB - Agree with you bad wording, sorry, but I did try to explain in some detail where I was coming from.

Occasionally it is possible for an ECG report to have the words "Abnormal ECG" which is due to a minor problem not needing intervention, such as occasional supraventricular ectopic beats.  But the report should include an explanation.  However, in your father's case, with a BP reading of 190/140 I agree with Lynn's thinking that he should have been put on blood pressure medication there and then.  I assume that he is going to be either followed up by his GP or referred to a cardiologist.  Definitely not something to ignore.
