High BP cant have eye op

Hello

I am a 33 year old male, in quite good shape, I weight lift 3-4 times per week, do not smoke and do not drink alcohol unless its  special occasion and even then I dont drink much.

Looking for some advice, I have the eye disease Keratoconus and was due to have an operation on my left eye on the 22nd Jan, however I have highish or high bp all the time, it has been this way for a number of years, my baseline appears to be 143/94 but I also get figures that can easily go to 167/108 as it was today at pre-operative assessment, they will not operate with that sort of bp figures as I need to have a GA.

I did try both an ace inhibitor (lisinopril? sp?) and propranolol last year for 3-4 weeks but my bp did not drop by much and the propranolol seemed to make me very fatigued so I stopped taking them and was hoping to lower it naturally.

I was also tested with 24 hour urine testing three times, one of those times my adrenaline was tover the lab range but not bya  great deal but the others it was normal so it was deemed I was ok.

I have been booked in to talk to my GP again about this, but I have reservations when it comes to taking bp loweing meds, I do not want to feel fatigued or to gain weight as I am trying to get in real good shape physically and trying to build alot of muscle mass.

any ideas what I could try or any tests that may be of use?

cheers

hi vigilante just coming into discussion again and especially derek. got so bothered about you. KEEP YOUR FAITH AND DONT LOSE  IT your figures on exercise are amazing and the average put you in good bp health. believe it because it sounds like you are doing so well. Has anyone tried to connect patientUk directly as I feel its time we all got a medic on board and had some impact with the guys who produce the meds finding G.P support is becoming so jard. Am still waitingfor gp phone call three weeks later and reply frombristol hypertension centre three weeks later. nothing. Well after all having reached seventy do they want me to just give in and die?

as you know i am really taken by dr manns book but emailed his site and again nothing. have found myself a sympathetic therapist which I have to pay for as gp said they could offer nothing in the area!

feel better in myself and it takes the pressure off my dear husband!

lets give ouselves a big pat on the back for all the support. thanks everyone jennifer

I think I should stop Ramipril with immediate effect? my GP increased dose to 5mg, since then I thought id caught the flu, i have extreme weakness, pre ramipril 40-50 pressups, yesterday 0-1 pressups, chills, low grade fever 37.5 c, head to toe aches and pains, right side flank pain.

everyone here has a cold like virus same for me but noone else has these flu like symptoms.

forgot to add my bp home monitor is picking up some very strange readings, irregular heartbeat around 30% of my readings, my heart rate has increased from 55-60 at rest a  few weeks ago to around 90-110?  some bp readings my diastolic reading is lowering but systolic remains high so readings look like 156/80
