High BP meds.

Dr is giving me Amlodipine 5 mg and Losartan 100 mg since last 6 months. Aml. does Not help me I get same symptoms as the others, dr refuses to stop/change it. Inspite of these 2 meds. there is not much difference in BP readings still is 145/88 i am in senior grp. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? i have changed 3/4 dr's in past 2 yrs. after taking all high potency prescri meds my bp went down to 135/80 but i was more dead than alive, no strength, cramps in the legs, high acidity, no sleep at night, total visits to bathroom in 24 hrs was 30/40 times,  could not walk 1 block it seemed i will fall down, iwas dragging my feet, cramps came while i start to walk, just could not walk/sit (while on the road?) had to wait till it passed off before returning home. But now w/the current combo of meds i still don't feel happy though i can do everything at a v. slow pace, get up at night for 3/4 times and during the day due to meds intake, i go every 1-2 hrs all day long.

Any suggestions?

    Hi h.n.

after taking amlodipine and having side effects similar to yours and no significant change in bp, I took myself off slowly, lowering the meds each day until it was nil. I am in Indonesia and asked the locals what they do for high bp as tablets and GP are not generally consulted too much $$. Told to have the following included in my diet, daily if possible. Cabbage, cucumber, spinach, beetroot and eggplant. I have also been having wheatgrass and lemon drink in the am. I have done this for four weeks now with no medication and no cramps etc. starting to feel a lot less tired also. Had bp checked and and has gone from 191 to 172. Please try this as you deserve a quality of life. Hope this helps. I had nothing to lose and gave it a go, quite impressed. Will not take another prescription medication for bp again if I can possible help it.cheers Tasma

Personally I don't think 145/88 is too high, and do you take it at home, I did that for years......

Too low, a person gets dizzy, fatigued, etc. etc.....

    I take 5mg Amlodipine, 25mg Atenolol and 25my Hydrochlorizide.....

I'd like to get off one at least and will see my doc next month and discuss it....

Your 145/88 most likely isn't this reading all the time.....situations, thoughts, everything affects our BP...dreams too.

I take a lot of other supplments and tried long and hard NOT to get on BP meds....our BP always goes up in the doc's office, you know that right?

Also magnesium HELPS with hypertension....I've been taking higher doses of Mag for many years.....Many are deficient in magnesium and low mag causes a lot of other issues too.....

Mag glycinate is a good form I use, I also use a mag complex....but not entirely mag oxide as it's the cheapest form and causes most loose bowels....

    I like mag citrate too.

I've been talking about the mag issue on the Hip Replacement board....mag is needed for bone health too, more important than calcium....Vit D3 is needed too, this is critical since MOST are deficient in Vit D.
