High Calcium Levels

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 2months ago after 3 years of trying to find out what was going on with my body. Have chatted on this forum before but something new has cropped up today. I have been having a lot of blood tests which the Rhumetologist requested and they have come back with high calcium levels. I also have my 3rd UTI in as many months. Wondering if anyone else with Firbo has had these problems. I am waiting for a hospital appointed to find out what is going on but until then this is worrying me. Thank you x

Hi Sue; I can't say that I have ever had "high Calcium Levels" show up in a routine blood/hair sample. However; having read some research on recent studies of Diagnosed Fibromyalgia patients, it was a "common factor" that ALL patients had a Raised Calcium and Magnesium level/s. As this is showing up in our blood and hair sameples, this means that "THESE NECESSARY CHEMICALs" are NOT being absorbed into our muscles/cells. This "could be the very reason" that we ALL suffer from cramps/weakness etc; as these chemicals are needed for this. Therefore the need to Supplement with both Magnesium and Calcium is essential, to hopefully get MORE into our muscles and cells. I have found the best absorption of these, is through a Powered form, dissolved in water, so that they can be absorbed via the Gut/Stomach Wall, before going further down our Digestive System.
?Does this make sense to you? and answer your question? Do hope so. Bron

Thank you Bron for replying. What you say certainly makes sense.I hadn't thought about the terrible cramping I get in my feet and toes. On the letter I received there is mention of my being referred to see an endrocrino logy team also the blood tests I had shows a raised Parathryroid Hormone level which can be caused by the higher calcium levels. I did a google search the early hours of this morning as I just couldn't sleep and there is a connection to Fibro, High Calcium levels and bladder problems all of which I have. Just hope I won't have to wait to long for an appointment as I am a bit of a worrier. When I get an answer I will post back the results. Take care Sue

I did some research into this subject as well, please consider having your Vit D levels checked and also consider a DEXA scan, there may be calcium absorption and parathyroid gland issues. Please look at this site:
parathyroid com
Parathyroid disease could be responsible for your health issues given your high serum Ca and PTH.
Hope this helps,

I was just diagnosed with cfs/fybromyalgia and I do have the same symptoms as you. I was wondering how you are doing and what were your test results.
I am concerned because my calcium is on the high normal 9.8, pth 47, and vitamin d is 22ng/ml. I will retest my calcium in a few weeks and ask to test my active vitamin d 1,25 OH.
I read that hyperparathyroidism often get misdiagnosed for cfs and fybromyalgia. I can understand why because the symptoms are so similiar.
Honestly I just want to get the right diagnoses so I can start getting better and not worry about what if and being misdiagnosed.

Hi taro, I should be having my hospital follow up appointment shortly so hopefully have some answers to the raised calcium and body scan I had. Unfortunately these seem to be taking such a long time to come through. I know with high calcium it can cause kidney stones and I have been getting so much pain with my back and burning when I pass urine. My urine tests never show infection I have got IC, painful bladder syndrome, so it could be this. Unfortunately with Fybro there is always so much going on you don't know what is causing what. My vitamin D level were really good. Like you I have read that hyperparathyroidism symptoms are similar to cfs and fybro and it does make you go around in circles trying to understand and get a diagnoses which would tell you exactly what you are dealing with.
I hope you get an answer soon take care. Sue x
