Oh towpaul! You are so young to have already have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. You really need to try to get control of your body while you're young before things get more out of control. I know that's easier said than done. And I am by far not sitting on my high horse looking down at you telling you how bad you are. I am on a ton of medicine and I did not do my body well when I was young. And I am paying for it now. It is possible that your headaches are caused by high blood pressure spikes. I know that high blood pressure can cause headaches and you being on blood pressure medicine makes me think that might be what's causing it. So you might check your blood pressure the next time you have one of your headache experiences. As for the cholesterol it is definitely possible to lower your cholesterol by diet alone but I can understand your doctor wanting you to start it since you also have high blood pressure. Both of them are a recipe for a stroke. I would hate to think you would have a stroke at your age. One word of caution about cholesterol medicine, you can experience leg pain when taking Lipitor or any Statin type of cholesterol medicine. I wish you well in your endeavors. It might be helpful for you to join a group to help with your dieting or if you have insurance or live in a country that has medical care to see a dietitian.

I took a statin and ezetroll ,only meds that really brought my cholesterol down under the required level.

For my statin leg pain I eat peanut butter everyday and zero pain result.

Reading over the years I've seen just as much benefits for statins as harm.

For me personally it's done well.I do believe it prevented a heart attack by restricting swelling.

    Look after your arteries

I was on 1/4 of a 5mg Crestor pill as I am statin intolerant.  I upped the dose to 1/2 of a 5mg pill and the tingling in my hands and legs became worse.  For now, I'm off of statins.  My numbers are really pretty good without the statins except that my HDL runs from 35 to 45.  My LDL is usually in the 95 to 100 range and my total cholesterol is around 150.

I don't have any advice except to say that regular exercise and a good diet that is low in sugar and carbs has done wonders for m.

    Also, what is your HDL?
