High dose vit. C - shingle free past 6 months

Posted , 3 users are following.

I googled hundreds of articles last year, and vit.C was a recurring advice. So, since before X-mas, Ive taken ~3 grams pr day. My eyelid shingles usually return every 3 months, but not seen any since before x-mas.

(In cosmetics, its argued that vitamin C has an anti wrinkle effect, by binding water and collagen near the skin surface. It is conceivable that such an effect could slow down the virus on its travel along the nerve canals towards the skin surface. Thus allowing the immune system enough time to intervene before outbreak occurs.)

    Hi Kriirk!

Two facts to be careful regarding Vitamin C supplementation:

The megadose can cause kidney stones if you are prone to kidney stone formation.

If you have hematochromacytosis, the vitamin C supplement would cause issues with iron.

Many people find it helps to eat a high Lysine low Arginine diet in herpes zoster shingles. Hi Lysine low Arginine ratio helps to discourage growth of shingles.I have recurrent episodes of Herpes Zoster Shingles in my right ear every three to five weeks for the past twentyone years and twice in my right eye. The episodes are slightly less frequent and less painful since I have followed this diet. Others take Lysine supplements.

I am a huge drinker/eater of Vitamin C BTW via orange juice and melons in the States.

I hope this helps. Thank you for your information on Vitamin C!

There is a new immunization Shingrex by GlaxoSmithKline submitted for approval by the FDA in October 2016 and European Counterpart November 2016. It has an adjuvant that makes it 93% efficacious as opposed to the Zostavax by Merck, with 53-37% waning efficacious rate by age.

Perhaps it will help those of us with recurrent episodes of Herpes Zoster Shingles.

    Best Wishes

    Merry Juliana
