High dose Vitamin C for EBV

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum but certainly not new to mono. I'm on month four and this is by far the most difficult thing I have ever gone through.

That being said, I've found some luck with some supplements that have shown to significantly improve my symptoms/speed up my recovery, and I thought I'd share them with you all. In addition to dietary changes and lots of rest (which there is really no way around), I take a multi-vitamin, a probiotic, extra Vitamin D, monolaurin, and high dose Vitamin C.

When I began taking this stack daily, I felt significantly better. Not 100% by any means (I'm still recovering) but SIGNIFICANTLY better.

After taking the stack for a few weeks, I went on vacation. I took all of my supplements with me but forgot the extra Vitamin C. I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal--there's some vitamin C in my multi-vitamin. Within 2 days, all of my symptoms came back with a vengeance. My heart rate shot up on my Apple watch (which is always a signifier that I'm having a flare up), I had night sweats and horrible fatigue. It felt like I was back at square-one. My initial theory was that the stress of traveling caused my symptoms to flare up (which is probably true to some extent), but then I remembered I forgot the extra Vitamin C. It seemed like a stretch that Vitamin C was what was saving me from my misery all along, but I thought I'd head over to a health store and pick up a supplement to see if it might make a difference.

It did.

My heart rate slowed down significantly and I had noticeably more energy within 30 minutes of taking the supplement. It felt like night and day. I've bumped my dosage up to 2,000 mg a day (which is the limit) and I feel so great!

I did some research and found that high-dose Vitamin C has proven to be an effective treatment for EBV. However, most studies are on intravenous (IV) Vitamin C. But I just thought I'd let you all know that I've had some luck with oral supplements. It might not work for everyone but with no risk, it's worth a shot!

I wish you all good health and speedy recoveries 😃

    Hey Willis,

Thanks for sharing this tip with us about Vitamin C. It was many years ago I had mono but I definitely found taking supplements helped a lot too, and glad to hear that the Vitamin C is making a big difference. I actually take 3000mg per day of Vitamin C, I know that's quite a high dose.

Definitely hoping that you feel much better soon - you will Willis, this virus just takes a bit of time unfortunately but you're through these awful early few months and things will get better - hang in there and remember continue to look after yourself and rest when you need to also, that's important too!
