High heart rate during AFib.

I have AFib and recently also told i have atrial flutter. My main concern is in the last month, my heart rate jumps up to 125-135 and can last most of the day.  Does anyone else have this?   What do you do to help bring down the rate.  I try Xanax sometimes, but it doesn't always help.

What other meds do you take?

This was happening to me a lot last yearwith raised heart rate & blood pressure all over the place, and I know how debilitating and scary it is.

Was taken off the Flecainide and only take a small dose of Bisoprolol now.

When your hr goes up is it a regular beat?

Suiggest you get in touch with your Cardiologist & have another ECG

Hi GotAbit Better,  thanks for your reply. I take blood pressure med and Blood Thinner.  I did take Amidadrone(spelling?) to control the AFib,but it made me unstable walking, etc. so I quit taking it and since then have had really bad spells of AFib and heart rate.  Still can't decide to do another ablation ( which realy worked for about 6 months) or start on Tikyson.

Give Tikosyn a try . It is worth it before considering any other proceedure.

It works for most and is easy compared to other options.

I have been on it for 6 months with only one AFib episode .Best, Didi

Hi Allen.. I also progressed to atrial flutter.  What they did was increase the dosage of my rate control medication, verapamil (calcium channel blocker).

Thanks for your reply CDM2.  I will get more info on this and ask my Dr. about this possibility.

    Had PAF for 25plus years.

HR upto 230 for up to 12 hours. Two ablations and fingers crossed.

Also flutter, with a lower HR around 125-140. , you need to see an EP if continues for more than a few days as extended periods can weaken heart.

My longest flutter episode was 10 days. Finally had to agree to have a CV. Lasted a week and then another 7 days and another CV.
