High heart rate - pounding beta blockers

Every time I get just a little anxious my heart rate goes up and I feel my heart pounding. So that makes me even more anxious. Do you get the same? How do you control it? My dr gave me a prescription for a beta blocker atenolol but obviously I am afraid to take it. Any experience with this med? Thanks.

Well bet and blockers just slows up the heart rate.. I was prescribed the drug buttt I never took it lol smh but I had it put in my iv when I was in the er and it made me kind of feel relaxed.. I have no negative comment on the reaction from the drug I was just calm and my heart rate went from 135 to 98 instantly lol I think the pills will be fine just don't take too many I think you should just take them when you have a attack.. my dr wanted me to take them twice a day for 6 months I thought that was just too much

Oh and how I controlled it was by not trying to focus on it I knnowwww it's hard trust me I know it took me a while to do it but eventually my heart rate would reach 165-175 I'd be sooo scared begging my mom to call the ambulance but eventually it would subside just breathe relax and focus on something else rather it's playing a game reading a book praying meditation something other than your heart rate.. I downloaded this heart rate app and I would constantly check it which was a bad idea and made me panic more lol take it easy love.. it will get better

Hello, I get palpitations, PVCs/ectopic beats, and also episodes of SVT. I've been taking Atenolol 25mgs a day for around the last 10 years, and it hasn't caused me any problems other than making me feel a bit slow and tired when I first went on it. It doesn't stop the attacks completely, but probably I get them less often. The main problem is you can't stop taking beta-blockers suddenly as your body gets used to them, and your palpitations will get worse if you do.

Yea I had SVT ... shew!  That was scary but it always reset itself if I relaxed.  But in 2016 I got an  ablation done.  All fixed!

It is pretty scary eh! Sometimes I can stop it by doing a vagus manoeuvre, but it doesn't always work. Longest I've had was 45mins at 180bpm which was horrible, but I know a lot of people have it worse than that. I don't think they offer you an ablation in the UK unless you have very bad attacks.

45!,,!  Omg ,,, I was scare at my 22 min max!  But it was going on once a week.

when i was 7  it was like my body knew exactly what to do.   But I wouldn’t dare down, I would lean over and take a deep breath and hold it but not clenched and stretch the lung and chest cavity .. BOOM it reset

Can I believe you lasted that long
