It's nearly 7 months after my bunion op and today I've managed to get a heel shoes on a small stiletto I'm not saying I could walk in it yet but it's the first time I've managed to even get one on has anyone else had this op previously and managed to wear stilettos again I would be interested to know .

Hi mitchy. I am 11 weeks post op. I am struggling to get into anything as yet. Have been wearing adjustable velcro sandals just now. I had been hoping I would have been getting into other shoes by now but my feet are still very fat. Did you have the same problem? I just don't seem to be seeing any shrinkage in the last few weeks.

Hi margot I had exactly the same problem my foot still swells now if I'm on it a long time it's only the last few week I seem to have turned a corner your very early days yet you've a long way to go so don't get too disheartened you'll get there I know I shouldn't really be thinking about heels but I love them ha I think another 3 month or so and I might be able to get into them I hope you recover well .

Thanks for your reply mitchy. I have definitely seen some progress since week 6 but it just seems to have halted. I have a huge ball like feeling under the toe joints making it difficult to walk. I thought that would have reduced by now. I am in pain with every step I take but having said that I do notice improvements in quality and speed of steps. Hoping you manage to achieve your goal of walking in heels smile

    Hello mitchy.

Brace yourself for my reaction to you wearing heels.

I think you are absolutely mad!!

    Heels, indeed.

What's wrong with a pair of elegant flats/ballet pumps/loafers. There's certainly no shortage fo choice available.

    Vanity, vanity, vanity!

    That's my opinion.

I don't mince my words; albeit sometimes to my cost. And as you have posted your thoughts on this forum  you must accept what people have to say. Me included.

But, really, I think you are out of your mind.

Do you want your foot to heal or do you just want to show off your new straight / bunionless, foot, and to hell with the surgeon's efforts to put your foot right and, I suspect what he would probably say to you if you made him aware that you were wanting to wear heels again so very soon after the surgery.

Mark my words you'll regret it.

It is going to take at least 12 months for the whole of your foot to recover completely and that's if you behave sensibly.

The way your starting off it'll take ten times that length of time and you'll have noboddy but yourself to blame.

If your lucky,  if it ever does.

    Gillian.

No I think vanity is a bit strong. Both my surgeon and my physio told me that the severe ache you get are fron extremely flat shoes. The ideal convalescant shoe has a padded sole with a slight heel to take the pressure off the metatarsal. When I complained about the limited footwear I was given the all clear to wear a kitten heel with a warning that I would ache a little more. Well I'm 5 and 1/2 months post op bilateral scarf and akins. I had this op to make life better not worse. I can wear a little heel for work (sit down job) and social events that don't involve standing all night.  My advice would be keep away from the big heels and follow your doctors advice. There is nothing wrong with a little vanity it's what stops us going around in trackies and slippers all day.
