High levels but going on vacation

Posted , 9 users are following.

I am a 28 y/o F. My hemoglobin is 17 and my hematocrit is 50. I am currently seeing a hematologist who is testing for Secondary Polycythemia and Polycythemia Vera. However, I am still waiting for results. With these levels, is it safe or ok for me to go on vacation for 2 weeks?

Mikhail, Have you found out if your polycythemia is vera or secondary yet? I have been knowingly living with secondary polycythemia after a congenital heart defect went undetected for 14 years, damaginging my lungs in processs. Yet to be listed for the heart and double lung transplant or any invasive surgery, ( there have been phelbotomies and a minor stroke 13 years ago) but I'll be 40 in December! If yours is secondary with pulomanary problems, get an O2 monitor, watch air quality several times a day. Do you know about Co Enzyme Q10? I have been taking it for over 10 years ( my local doctors in PHX and at Stanford both know) it helps with cellular oxygenation. I started at 40mg but over the years especially with my cardio issues I take anywhere from 400 to 1200 a day, notice the difference if I miss a day, my O2 sats go down. Anyone with polycythemia can use all the help they can get with o2. Being it is an antioxidant when surgery time comes I will have to stop. Also love effects of omega mix, grapeseed and a multivitamin w/o iron and either minimum to no Vitamin K.. Keep as active as you can, live your life to the fullest with caution not fear! If the numbers are your bday, have a great one!!!
